Personal anecdote

I removed Pydory's contribution as it is not encyclopedia nor objective, but it makes a nice story.

Before Yakima went to Hollywood, for a time, he was foreman on my Grandfather's ranch at Walla-Walla, Washington. They used 100 mule teams to haul the combines around the rolling hills of South Eastern Washington. The mules were hitched shoulder to shoulder in a line. There were ten mule skinners for each team of 100 mules and they were under the direction of Yakima and my Grandfather, George A. Hale. My mother had pictures of her as a child sitting on Yakima's knees and also sitting on one of his silver saddles he won at one of the rodeos. I saw the pictures when I was child, but they have since been lost. My mother and I tried to get to see him when he was filming a John Wayne picture in Marin County, but were not allowed onto the set. I would liked to have met the man, I heard so many stories about him from my Mother and Grandmother. User:Pydory

First live action Disney picture

Does "the first live action Disney picture" mean that Westward Ho, The Wagons! was his first live action Disney picture? If so, the sentence should be changed accordingly. The way it reads, one could think that Westward Ho, The Wagons! was the first Disney live-action picture, which isn't true. Jim (talk) 03:33, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Marriage information

Certificate found through www.familysearch.org, Montana County Marriages, certificate no 3500, Flathead County, Montana, between Enos Edward Canutt of Colfax and Katherine Wilks, divorcee, maiden name Derre, by a justice of the peace, on 20 Jul 1917; there is no evidence the marriage actually occurred at the show. Character Connection?

My grandfather Roy Hammond, was a close friend of Yak's - in the rodeos, not in the movies. My grandfather and my mother, who was a very small child at the time she knew Yak, used to sit and laugh as she and her father talked about old Yakima incidents - especially a couple involving a quite irate Kitty Canutt. I recently noticed that the lead character in the movie Hell Hounds of the Plains, played by Canutt, was named Yak Hammond. I have since wondered if the character was named for my grandfather and Yak's friend, Roy Hammond.
