BASED ON COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO? edit
IMHO: The (unreliable) source says so, comment evidently made before the source had seen the script or the telenovela. I would not say that Yago is based on Dumas CMC. You might call it a spin-off. Like Dumas, a young man is falsely accused of a crime and imprisoned. An old man helps him escape. But Yago is too drastically different from Dumas. It ends up presenting a moralistic sermon against vengeance as Yago gets involved in a tit-for-tat feud between two mafioso type gang lords. Yago does not find a treasure (like on some island). Yago is kind of a clever, artsy, weird telenovela, employing standard telenovela motifs, like unknown/mistaken parentage, 2 sisters after 1 man, and kidnapped kid. But the telenovela is definitely original with continual flashbacks (which may make the audience feel dizzy and disoriented). The protagonist lacks the omnipotence of the Dumas character and is an adulterer. Yago seems to exhibit the current trend towards gruesome, gory, violent scenes (non-Dumas). The plot is highly contrived, yet presents quite complicated characters who are not typical stereotype roles. The actors generally are more realistic looking than eye-candy. The writer(s) have gone to unusual trouble to explain why the villains act evil, going back to their maltreatment as children with flash-backs. As of June 26, Univision has moved it out of its prime time to 11 PM on its subchannel Unimas. Probably the plot is too weird, gory, and artsy for the telenovela audience on Univision. I think that Turkish writers may be responsible for creating a highly original plot which does not fit into the usual Spanish-language telenovela genres. (PeacePeace (talk) 05:05, 27 June 2016 (UTC))
- I have revised the "based-on" statement to spin-off -- no one has opposed the above. The citation is the primary source itself, which is widely available for verification by common persons, being viewable on broadcast TV and on the Univision.com site. (PeacePeace (talk) 20:50, 5 August 2016 (UTC))
