Speed vs max speed

RovingPersonalityConstruct I don't agree with this revert. I gave a source, which I think is reliable, that gives the max speed at Mach 1.5. This source does quote a max speed of 0.9, but is that the maximum speed or merely the cruising speed? In any case, if there's a disagreement between sources, WP:NPOV requires us to present all significant viewpoints.VR _talk 08:17, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

There are a few mentions from sources of dubious reliability (GlobalSecurity, Deagal) that the YJ-83 performs a terminal supersonic dive; this may be what Koda is alluding to. Reliable sources are needed to support both the terminal dive and the speed of the dive. Putting the dive speed as the maximum speed without additional qualification gives a rather skewed impression of capability for any aircraft or missile. - RovingPersonalityConstruct (talk, contribs) 14:26, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

The source looks reliable enough. It's WP:WEIGHT that is the issue, given the preponderance of evidence to the contrary. Hence my previous comment which aims to find some way to include it in such a way that better satisfies the requirements for inclusion. - RovingPersonalityConstruct (talk, contribs) 04:54, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

I don't necessarily see a contradiction. A RAND document (page 175) says the YJ-83 has a "cruise" speed of 0.9, and a "terminal" speed of 1.4. The "speed" parameter in the Template:Infobox weapon apparently refers to the "maximum speed". The straightforward definition of "maximum" would be the highest speed a weapon can attain at any point during its operation. So it seems reasonable to say Mach 1.4 is the maximum speed. But how do we reconcile its subsonic cruise speed?

One idea would be introduce an optional parameter in that template for "cruise speed". Alternatively, we could squeeze all this information into the "maximum speed" parameter like "Max speed: Cruise speed: 0.9 Mach, Terminal speed 1.4 Mach". It won't look elegant, but it gets the point across. I prefer the first option, though.VR _talk 05:17, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

My first thought would be top put it all in the "maximum speed" parameter like:
