Yūichi Nakamura (actor) → Yuichi Nakamura (actor) – Move was not discussed, and the article subject's official blog uses the spelling "Yuichi", so a full move request and discussion will be necessary. --Relisted. George Ho (talk) 03:35, 16 May 2015 (UTC) – DAJF (talk) 23:37, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
- @DAJF: This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:07, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. "Modified Hepburn romanization...should be used in all cases," per MOS:JAPAN. Fernando Danger (talk) 02:30, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support MOS:IDENTITY the person himself uses this spelling. -- 65.94.43.89 (talk) 04:24, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
- Did you read the rule you cite? "When there is a discrepancy between the term most commonly used by reliable sources for a person or group and the term that person or group uses for themselves, Wikipedia should use the term that is most commonly used by reliable sources." The URL linked to above is a Japanese language site. Macron usage is a style issue, like capitalization. We should follow our own rules, not allow subjects to create irregular forms for themselves. Fernando Danger (talk) 01:02, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- Did you read the sources used in the article? They're in Japanese, so cannot attest to the use of the macron. Thus the usage is provably without macrons because the macron version is not in use. -- 65.94.43.89 (talk) 04:37, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
- The macron is based on the modified Hepburn romanization system recommended in MOS:JAPAN. Many people drop out marcons because they don't have a macron key on their keyboard or because they don't know how to use them. That type of "usage" is no basis to decide encyclopedic style. The published encyclopedias use macrons across the board. Fernando Danger (talk) 08:27, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
- WP:OR -- without a source, that's just original research and handwaving WP:SYNTH ; you cannot claim usage of a macron without backing it up. The nominator has provided a source to prove that the name is actually written in such a manner. There is no current proof the current article title is ever used. That is a WP:BLP violation because it categorically fails WP:V -- 65.94.43.89 (talk) 10:49, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
- Style issues can't be resolved by rules created to deal with factual content issues. The idea of an encyclopedia is to present factual content derived from the RS in our style as detailed in MOS:JAPAN. The logical extension of the argument you are making is that we should junk style guidelines altogether. You'd need a "source" to capitalize a proper name. There is no RS source for the Latin-character spelling of this name, macron-free or otherwise. All we can do is transliterate from Japanese. The transliteration method is well established; There is nothing "original" about it. Fernando Danger (talk) 05:41, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

- Support per his official blog. Per MOS:JAPAN#Romanization. The rest of the sentence just after the part Fernando quoted states, "...excepting those cases where another romanization is determined to be in common usage in reliable sources..." His blog would be considered a reliable source for determining the romanization. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 22:44, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
- Suppose the blog gave his name as "Yuichi nakamura", "Yui Chinakamura", or some other irregular form? How far do we want to go with the "Japanese-language blog as RS" concept? Fernando Danger (talk) 14:13, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support WP:COMMONNAME as per usage in English news sources ([1], [2] [3]) --Prosperosity (talk) 05:57, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
- None of those links can be considered "major English-language media outlets," which is what our guideline requires to establish WP:COMMONNAME. One is to a blog. Do you realize that media sources generally do not use diacritics of any kind? They follow AP style, which is definitely not Wikipedia's style. Using macrons follows MOS:JAPAN and is in line with the practice of other encyclopedias and reference works. Fernando Danger (talk) 06:21, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
- Support per nom and I agree with 日本穣 above. Cavarrone 10:31, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
- Support. Not a single source provided for the macron spelling, while several credible sources have been provided for the spelling without it, including the subject's blog. Jenks24 (talk) 14:41, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
