BRAVIA

I got a BRAVIA KDL-32S3000 over the summer and it has XMB. ( as opposed to only the XBR, which even the guy who sold it to me insisted was the only to have it ) Looking on SonyStyle, all of the 3000 S-series are listed as having it. My PS2 doesn't use the XMB interface -- it's the model before the slim-line PS2 release so either Sony used the XMB UI in previous versions and then took it out, or added it to the slim-line PS2 release, or else this claim is just wrong. Clarification please. --NJM 05:39, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Look to the DVD HUD in playback options (translucent) is the same concept.

If you're talking about the on-screen controls you use with a DualShock instead of the real remote, then that isn't anything like the XMB GUI. Otherwise, what are you talking about? --NJM 01:32, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

No, PS2 does NOT have XMB, but PSX does. PSX function just like a PS2, but with added feature. It's not original PS (sometimes called PS, PS1, or PSX)--w_tanoto 15:34, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Copy Edit changes

Removed the icons section, as the information within was merged into the introduction (is that the proper term for it?) of the article. The rest of the information regarding the PSP was branched off into it's own section. Reworded and expanded the Control section, based on the original description, as well as videos of the XMB in action (I do not yet own any Sony products which use the XMB, so I'm making logical guesses here).

I left most of the content intact, but just reworded it and added on some bits for clarity. --Jsloan31 13:14, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

VAIO?

the XMB is also highly used in some hi-end sony vaio notebooks and are already installed when buying one. --pascalbrax 2006-12-04

I doubt it. I've seen a lot of VAIOs, but none have the XMB. The only type of Sony-made interface I've seen on a VAIO is like the touchscreen-optimized menu on the UX-series. Perhaps you could show me us a photo or screenshot?(Myscrnnm 22:52, 2 June 2007 (UTC))

There is no XMB b/c Sony Vaio computers support Windows Media Center. Apple has their own (Ilife) version of Media Center which is just basic forms of the XMB. Xross Media Bar?

I thought it was already decided to leave it as Cross Media Bar not Xross Media Bar. Why was it moved back? Ryan McCue ^{Let's have a chat} 06:13, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

buttons

Which buttons are select and which are back on this bar, it does not explain. I believe it's mainly because "X" is a reference to "Execute" in the U.S; Xenosaga (possibly -gears too) Series broke this trend (possibly other games too) with "O" being select. 66.168.19.135 (talk) 16:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

XrossMediaBar

XrossMediaBar, as stupid as it sounds, is the only thing Sony has ever called it. I suggest the article be changed to reflect that (including it's article location).

There are other examples of Sony using the term "Cross Media Bar". For example, http://au.playstation.com/support/ps3/guide/crossmediabar_index.jhtml. For the PSP documentation, it is usually referred to as the "home menu" (most likely because you activate it by pressing the "home" button). --James 07:00, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

I just performed a Google search of the domains sony.com, sonystyle.com and playstation.com and it appears that "Xross Media Bar" (also XrossMediaBar) has at least three times the results as "Cross Media Bar," leading me to believe that "Xross Media Bar" is it's true form. It seems that in Australia and New Zealand they chose to change it to Cross for some reason. -Chimaera2005 07:26, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Doing a trade mark search shows that the "Xross Media Bar" registration was not awarded until February this year (they applied for it back in August 2004 though). So it is possible that Sony didn't start pushing this spelling until recently. They certainly don't seem to be consistent though -- for example, they use both spellings on this page.

The real test is whether the general public adopts the new spelling too. If the interface is commonly known as "Xross Media Bar", then the current article name is fine. If people continue to call it the "Cross Media Bar", then perhaps it should be moved back to the original location. --James 15:57, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

If Wikipedia is to be taken seriously, then it needs to have factual entries. Changing an article based on public (or popular) opinion is irresponsible, and it is hardly an "encyclopedia" as it calls itself. Considering that performing both a Google search and Wikipedia search for "Cross Media Bar" both result in the aforementioned article as a (first hit) redirect, I find your point to be moot and unsubstantiated. 8 out of 10 people say "beta" fish instead of "betta," should we go change that article to reflect it's common (and incorrect) name and pronunciation as well? Color Change Desctiption Clarification

Who's the developer?

The article is contradicting itself. In the intro:

"The XrossMediaBar (pronounced CrossMediaBar and officially abbreviated as XMB) is an award-winning[1] graphical user interface developed by Sony."

In Developer:

"Q-Games Ltd, a small development company based in Kyoto, Japan, developed the graphics technology behind the XMB, its stylized background, and the built-in music visualizers"

The XMB is a design concept invented and specified by Sony. The individual implementation of the concept for various Sony products will be different, so perhaps this other company did the specific PS3 menu. Emmy award winning?

I just looked at the link, it it looks like a lot of products are emmy award winning. Does that mean we should also add to the lead of their respective articles that Nintendo is an emmy award winning company and that The-N.com (which doesn't even have it's own article here) should be mentioned that it has won an emmy? I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with the emmy award, or the side quest awards that they do, but should it really be in the lead? JayKeaton (talk) 07:55, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I've moved it to further in the lead section. I believe it should be included because it helps establish the subject's notability. It shouldn't be in the very first sentence, however, firstly, to keep the sentence as straightforward as possible, and secondly, to prevent any POV issues from arising. - kollision (talk) 11:20, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Incompatible file download?

From the section XrossMediaBar#PlayStation_3_XMB "It also has compatibility for a USB keyboard and mouse and a full web browser supporting incompatible file download function."

Lol. I see what you mean. I think it's trying to say that you can download any files, regardless of whether or not you can use them on your PS3.
