Becerra is married to physician Carolina Reyes[10] and has three children. "Abortion rights" v "Reproductive rights"

3Kingdoms and I disagree about what to call Xavier_Becerra#Abortion_rights_and_pay_equity. I think it should be called "reproductive rights" because ratings from NARAL and Planned Parenthood encompass more than just the right to abortion. Anyone else care to weigh in? That section is pretty skimpy. I think the best solution is to expand it with more reproductive rights issues and use that in the header. Becerra sued a Catholic organization over contraception. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:06, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
My issue is that I have almost never seen the term "reproductive rights" used solely outside of pro-abortion rights groups. NARAL has abortion right in its name. Along with PP almost all of their activism is focused on abortion one way or another. 3Kingdoms, we have a page at Reproductive rights. It's about much more than just abortion, and PP and NARAL also advocate for other reproductive issues, like birth control, paid parental leave, and stopping pregnancy discrimination. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:21, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
Okay, but even that page has the term mentioned as "fudge word" by anti-abortion rights people. Also even then the bulk of the page is on abortion, which is also what this section mentioned when discussing Becerra. At the end of the day most pages use abortion rights, and I think that policy should stand. Also I disagree about the two groups mentioned above, NARAL stands for National Abortion Rights Action League their focus is on abortion and its legality. PP advocates other issues sure, but almost all focus on them and their funding of groups is based on legal abortion access. 3Kingdoms (talk) 01:37, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
At the end of the day most pages use abortion rights. This seems questionable, given the article Muboshgu pointed to—which indeed, despite the criticisms you alluded to, covers far more than abortion. I have also just added some material unrelated to abortion (and some material related to it); see this diff. Muboshgu's article is another example. AleatoryPonderings (???) Criticism on health policy

At a UCSF medical grand rounds, which was posted on Youtube, Eric Topol blasted Becerra for his lack of leadership in HHS, particularly in implementing science-based policies for covid. Topol said Becerra "hasn't shown up for the pandemic." Topol said there was a lot of in-fighting in the Biden administration among the different HHS agencies, and as secretary, Becerra is responsible for resolving those differences, but hasn't done it. For example, Topol said, "we have a pathetic data system," the worst of any developed country. In May, the CDC promised that they would track every viral breakthrough infection, hospitalization and death. We don't have it. The data is a month old, and it's "de minimus," inadequate. Topol said that Becerra could mandate this data collection, but hasn't, because he's afraid of the political backlash.

I think we should include this in the entry. The entry has almost no criticism of Becerra, particularly on health policy as HHS secretary. This isn't a fringe person, it's Eric Topol who is as respected in the medical establishment as you can get. I'd make the change myself but I don't want to get into edit wars. Any objections? Nbauman, is there any WP:SECONDARY coverage? Without it, I'd say this is just a grand rounds presentation not worth including. It's not up to us to interpret the video. You say he blasted Becerra, but perhaps others have different interpretations. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:26, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

I don't have time now to do a proper search (which would include the science and medical journals), but I wanted to float the idea first. But during the Omicron wave, we haven’t a clue as to whether and to what extent hospitalizations are being prevented by vaccinations and boosters....
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), led by Secretary Xavier Becerra, has chosen to avoid mandating that data be collected. Is this unwillingness a reaction to fear of political backlash? Amid an ongoing public health crisis, this inaction is unacceptable.
Mr. Becerra has also shirked other responsibilities. There has been obvious in-fighting between the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the CDC, and the White House COVID-19 Response Team about issues ranging from booster shot recommendations to isolation guidelines that omit any testing for the virus. A leader of HHS should be mediating such conflicts, with the goal of a single, consistent, and unified public message. That, along with data that justify government decisions, would promote clarity and trust.
