Talk:Wreck of the Rockingham, 1775

There seems to be much wrong with this article. Although there were several vessels named the Marquis of Rockingham, and two sailed for the East India Company, this vessel was not one of them. Neither of the most comprehensive lists of East Indiamen, Hardy and Hardy (1811) and the National Archives has a Marquis of Rockingham being lost at Cork in 1775. A regimental history of the 32 Light Infantry (Cornwall), names the lost vessel as the Rockingham Castle. One of the sources in the footnotes to the article simply refers to the lost vessel as the Rockingham. There were also other vessels by the name of Rockingham, one of them an East Indiaman, but it sailed long after 1775. Acad Ronin (talk) 02:32, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

There is lots of good info and I am strongly against deleting good info. I just haven't figured out a way to retitle the article and to include the ambiguity of the name. That's really the only issue, but it is a bigish one because of the possible confusion it may sow (and has sown in my mind as I tried to sort it out). Unfortunately, I don't have ready access to issues of Lloyd's Register, which otherwise might help in disentangling the vessels. Cheers, Acad Ronin (talk) 20:05, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
