In 2018 the United States Holocaust museum has the number of murdered during the time period of the holocaust at 17 million six million Jews and 11 million others

adding a new source for number of murdered during the time period of the Holocaust https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/documenting-numbers-of-victims-of-the-holocaust-and-nazi-persecution Jack90s15 (talk) 03:57, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

2005 Estimates

The opening mentions three separate 2005 estimates. Are these related? Was there a major effort at the time to determine casualties? If so, should that mentioned? --The Vital One (talk) 18:38, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

I made an edit to clarify the issue. The Overmans project was sponsored by a private German foundation, he was given access to the personnel files of those who served during the war. His estimate of 5.3 million was made using statistical analysis. The Overmans study was published and endorsed by the German military authorities. The 2005 German government figure is based on 3.2 million confirmed dead and 1.1 million adjudicated dead in legal proceedings. It does not represent an enumeration of the total war dead. See German casualties in World War II.--Woogie 10w (talk) 19:22, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Thank you. Very informative, but is it related to the 2005 Chinese and Japanese estimates also mentioned? Or were they done by separate people? --The Vital One (talk) 19:52, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
China and Japan are unrelated to these German estimates. In the case of China and Japan the government isself made a demographic estimate of the losses. Check the footnotes, the reliable sources do not always agree.--Woogie 10w (talk) 19:57, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
