Not a gallery/museum but a contest
editThe article for World Press Photo is listed in the category Category:Photography museums and galleries. This seems inappropriate. I would suggest creating a list of photography contests, which does not yet seem to exist. Joeri Kempen (talk) 13:45, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- Category:Photography awards, perhaps? -- Hoary (talk) 12:53, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- It is also an annual major touring exhibition (Category:Photography exhibitions). -Lopifalko (talk) 16:36, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
Edits
editHello,
I am an intern in the Communications department at World Press Photo. I wanted to flag out that there are some outdated information, and edits that should be done on this page. Is it okay if i go on with edits? I mainly want to highlight the new regional model, categories, etc of the contest. Yba99 (talk) 13:18, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Yba99: Hi and thanks for coming here to discuss this. In your situation, to be mindful of WP:FCOI and suggest any alterations on the article's talk page would be the best way forward. Then another editor, such as myself, could make any relevant changes. Thanks. -Lopifalko (talk) 16:56, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for your answer. Here are my suggestions:
- under the objectives tab:
- Over the last few years, The World Press Photo have taken initiatives and started programs to encourage a more diverse and inclusive representation of the world. While important steps have been made since 2015, when the organization first publicized contest entrant data to be more transparent about the need for greater diversity, World Press Photo has highlighted the need to achieve a more inclusive, diverse visual journalism industry, and to highlight a multiplicity of voices to offer a more balanced view of the world.
- Therefore, the World Press Photo Foundation launched a new strategy in 2021 that includes changes to the contest, exhibitions and education programs. The 2022 Contest was the result of the first year of this new strategy and aimed at achieving a more geographically balanced view of the world, with a majority of winning photographers being local to the countries which they are documenting, resulting in more nuanced perspectives and a better shared understanding. The winning stories documented a range of issues from the undeniable effects of the climate crisis to civil rights movements, and from access to education to preserving Indigenous practices and identity.
- 2. creating a new category : Activities. Under that to be written:
- Through their programs, the World Press Photo Foundation encourages diverse accounts of the world that present stories with different perspectives. This is why, the organization has organised the African Photojournalism Database, which is a directory of more than 500 emerging and professional African visual storytellers, created to help photographers better connect to the international media economy. Moreover, the Joop Swart Masterclass has also been implemented. The educational experience of the Joop Swart Masterclass is based on an assignment to produce a photo essay around a given theme. During the program, industry experts mentor the participants, sharing their personal experience and knowledge. By engaging in dialogue with the masters, as well as with their fellow participants, the program aims to build relationships that will help develop the participants’ work in the future.
- And then potentially deleting the whole category of Joop Swart Masterclass.
- 3. Create a new category : Partners. Under that category, to be written:
- In line with a new strategy that focuses on increased visibility and connection in regions around the world, World Press Photo Foundation decided to partner with Drik to better connect to local networks and provide more regional visibility for local photojournalists and documentary photographers.Drik, based in Bangladesh is an independent media organisation committed to challenging social inequality and was established in 1989.
- World Press Photo and Drik started to work jointly on the contest outreach and judging activities in the regiom. In addition, Drik is the host of the Dhaka exhibition.
- Let me know what you think of these suggestions, and we can discuss it! Yba99 (talk) 12:37, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
