The World Mayor Project honours mayors who have provided outstanding service to their communities and have contributed to the well-being of cities worldwide. Winners since 2004 include Edi Rama (Tirana), Dora Bakoyannis (Athens), John So (Melbourne) and Helen Zille (Cape Town). Ms Zille is now the Sate Premier of the Western Cape. The World Mayor Project is organised by the non-commercial think tank City Mayors.
