The article is overly large because it details a lot of things, but there is no focus on the battalion. Just to use the section on the 7th Battalion in the Second World War as an example:

  • We dont need to know the command structure above the division, i.e. Southern Command etc.
  • Joslen does not support anything in the first sentance of the France section (the div being mobilized on Sept 3, the start of training, or the plan to ship them to France). I have read Ellis too, he is not that detailed.
  • The info about the BEF being in lines, is detail beyond the scope of this article
  • Withdrawal to the Escaut: We havent even been informed where the battalion was based, let alone that it was in Belgium, and now its withdrawing to France?
  • The link to the 1st Cav Div is inappropriate. The division was not based in France, and it did not provide the screen for the BEF; the divisional cavalary regiments did that. All of which is relevant to the battalion?
  • The 2nd Div was engaged in combat, but did this include the battalion?
  • We are now discussing the 44th Div and what brigades it was made up of, how is this relevant to the 7th Battalion?
  • Considering the article shifted into a history of the 2nd Division, it provides quite the rosy version of events considering the division was given a very bloody nose on May 28 in holding the line.
  • Did the battalion knock the tanks out?
  • This section turns into an account of the Battle of Dunkirk, with references to French and other British formations but no mention of the 7th Battalion
  • Relevance of the photo or the caption to the 7th Battalion?
  • We then move on to discussing the 4th Brigades activities, but the 7th was with the 5th.
  • The 5th is advancing? During a retreat?
  • There is a detailed account of what the 5th Brigade was doing, but what does the Camerons and Dorsets have to do with the 7ths activities?
  • Joslen is being cited for the evacuation from Dunkirk? He doesnt support anything about that.
  • Home Defence: What source is being used for the division being based at Imphal barracks (correct name for period) at this time?
  • Joslen does not have 2nd Division assigned to X Corps, what source is being used for that? It was part of I Corps.
  • How is X Corps/Northern Command relevant to the 7th Battalion?
  • A huge area is described, but where was the battalion based?
  • Relevance of continued history of the 2nd Div?
  • India & Burma: None of this section was cited. It had cites, but they did not support the material (some of it inaccurate) in the article.
  • Kohima: Is there a source to describe the Japanese offensive as a preemptive strike?
  • "Between 25 and 28 March the company", we switched from discussing the 2nd Division to a company. Is this supposed to be the 7th Battalion?
  • While we finally have some info on the battalion, this section reads more like a history of the 208th Field Company.
  • Irrawaddy crossing: Is all over the place with over-detailed descriptions of everything, but the 7th Battalion and again singling out the 208th Field Company.

The rest of the article is in the same shape; it needs to stay focused on the topic at hand, while providing short pieces of relevant context i.e.: "the battalion became part of the 2nd Div, which advanced into Belgium. The battalion fought an action at X, and X. Interesting tibbet about battalion's band gear etc." Ten varying sized paragraphs could be reduced to one or two, to cover the mobilizing and Battle of France.EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 23:02, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Invasion threat from Napoleon III

edit

I would not place the invasion threat that spawned the formation of volunteer units in Britain as a consequence of Napoleon III's taking of power in France in 1851, eight years before the volunteer units were formed. We had built amiable relations with France, Napoleon III - who had sheltered in England before returning to France in 1848 - being accepted as visitor and host by Victoria and Albert, and France under him was an ally in the Crimean War. The invasion scare came after the Orsini affair in 1858 when Britain was implicated by France in the attempt on his life.Cloptonson (talk) 14:25, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
