Talk:Worcestershire County Cricket Club

Latest comment: 14 years ago by Kudpung in topic Section: Notable past players

This article is now quite long, but I think the stub notice is still justifiable since the historical section remains rather poor, with hardly any detail between the nineteenth century and the 1960s. Loganberry (Talk) 14:33, 23 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

2007 flood-related ground changes edit

When the Grounds section is updated (the end of the season would seem the most sensible time for this) care will need to be taken regarding the flood-related changes. Discussion on WT:CRIC established that matches moved out-of-county should be regarded as neutral-venue rather than home games, but the Worcester Royal Grammar School Ground, which hosted the List A game v Sri Lanka A, is an entirely new venue at this level and will need to be added. Section: Notable past players edit

Surely the fact that all these people have undisputed pages about them in the Wikipedia is sufficient justification of notability to include them in this list? Banner deleted.--Kudpung (talk) 06:44, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

PS: Generally, the talk page is the place for comments concerning the content. I will therefore repeat the comments hidden in the page code:
NB: The definition of "notable" is vague, but it doesn't mean "every single Worcs player who appeared in a Test or ODI"! I don't think Phil Newport, for example, would qualify. I've taken a view that playing a large number of games for the County side makes a player "notable" at least as far as the County is concerned

Classification of players edit

Why is Joe Clarke down a wicket-keeper? He has played around 150 games for Worcs, all as batsman, none as keeper as far as I am aware. As far a Worcs are concerned he is a batsman only.

Meanwhile Daryl Mitchell is not down as an all-rounder despite having taken around 200 wickets.

Grounds edit

There is a note saying that Haden Hill Park was due to host a B&H match in 1988 but it was never held. There are two problems with this: (1) The match was due to be help at Haden Hill Cricket Ground, not Haden Hill Park. They are adjacent but separate. (2) The match was against Minor Counties and, as I recall, it was a Minor Counties home match, not a Worcs home match so is of no relevance to this section - but I may be wrong.
