I have never heard Woodland refered to as "Woodpile". Basically there is nothing to do in Woodland as far as entertainment for teens, so we pretty much go to Davis, CA which is like 10 minutes away.

Vandalism Notices

Someone had written this in the "Other Information" section:

Mr. English drove a tank in Woodland while in the National Guard, He claims it was a self propelled cannon! he's wrong! He's my favorite teacher though! he was in my math class today, and he said I should sit outside. That made me feel sad :-(

Either this was a joke or someone's sincere but misguided attempt at adding relevant info; either way, I deleted it. Stlom 00:38, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure I came in here and fixed the population in the summary... and somebody decided to put back to the original WRONG number. It's ridiculous because the summary says one thing and under "Demographics" it says another. Killiondude (talk) 06:31, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Revamping Page

So I'm going to revamp this page this week. I'm still new to wiki, so if any more experienced users would like to edit what I'm doing, or give any suggestions, that would be appreciated. Killiondude (talk)

The reference, and link, to the movie Bloodsport is incorrect. True, there was a movie called "Bloodsport" filmed in Woodland but it was a 1973 movie about high school football starring Larry Hagman and Gary Busey. see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069804/ There's a scene where a football player dies in practice and you can see the brick buildings of Beamer Elementary school in the background. Fell free to use this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.237.235.130 (talkcontribs)

I changed the page to reflect what you said. Thanks for the info.Killiondude (talk) 20:43, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

I've been sort of modeling it after Sacramento, CA but I'll look at the featured articles are for the WikiCity project to try and mirror those. Killiondude (talk) 07:20, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

I feel like the page is really coming along. I've been working on it now for over a month. Of coarse its no where near perfect, but I think its a lot better than it was. Are there any suggestions that anyone has? Thanks.Killiondude (talk) 04:33, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Sister City

So i dont know if im doing this thing the right way, bellow you said we can discuss here so thats what im gonna do. so im from La Piedad, Michoacan, Mexico, THATS THE WAY IT SHOULD be spelled out, dont get me wrong you might be getting the the wrong info, its just that if im from there i know how to spell it, and trust me there is no such thing as la piudad, piudad doesnt even make any sense, thats not a word, but anyway, for me you can keep it like that, im nobody right, im just a guy who really enjoys having all the info i need at the tip of my fingers thanks to wiki, but im also the guy who hates seing his home town's name being wrongfully spelled. but thanks anyway..!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scionleny (talkcontribs) 16:16, September 5, 2008

I am sorry, you are correct. I googled the names and I found that I was mistaken in thinking that Sister City's listed city was a factual city in Mexico. I'm sort of embarrassed now... I thought I had googled the separate names before... Well, thank you for posting that on the discussion page, it all makes sense now. Killiondude (talk) 02:20, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

So, in case you didn't see the above statement I page on the talk page before, I will move it to here. So the chances that people would READ things, may increase.

Sigh. So if you visit the Sister City International page, and you look to see what city Woodland, CA is sistered with, it is listed as "La Piudad, Mexico" and not "La Piedad, Mexico". I've made this correction on the page, and its been reverted at least once. I think twice (EDIT: once again as of 8/11/2008). So before changing where Woodland, CA is sistered to, please discuss here. There is no wiki article on La Piudad, Mexico (the city Sister Cities International says is Woodland's sister), but there is one for La Piedad, Mexico (not where Sister Cities says) and I think that is why it keeps being reverted.Killiondude (talk) 07:22, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Re-assessed

Hi, I took a look at WP:BCLASS and found that Woodland, California meets each of the six criteria in order to be B-Class. If you disagree with my assessment, feel free to discuss it here. Thanks, -Killiondude (talk) 07:58, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Removal of Geography section

I removed the geography section because all the content (except for what I'll post in a second) was also stated elsewhere in the article. The only thing that I would've liked to post in the article somewhere was this statement "All of the land in and around Woodland is relatively flat. The arable land that is characteristic of the Central Valley surrounds the city and makes good soil condition for tomatoes, corn, and other produce." It didn't seem very wise to keep a section with one sentence, so I'm posting it here to be used (or the idea of it) to be used in the future. I also deleted it because it was suggested here Killiondude (talk) 07:43, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Indigenous section

I removed all references of the term "Poo-e-win" from the indigenous section. A search on Google showed that the only hits were from mirrors of this Wikipedia article, the actual source the term came from, and mirrors of that source. I don't know if perhaps "Poo-e-win" is spelled phonetically and therefore has an alternate spelling??? I just removed it because the section has enough detail (and I added some with new sources) to do without that term. Killiondude (talk) 07:49, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Federal Representation

according to Google Earth and The National Atlas, Woodland is show to be split between the Ca 1 & 2 congressional districts. can i, and how would i, cite this as a source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.14.179.185 (talk) 18:38, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Economy

Can we still say that modular housing is the biggest manufacturing in town? With Fleetwood and Silvercrest closed, AFAIK only Skyline remains.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 14:29, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

By Hell

The location of City of Woodland, Yolo City, was NEVER called By Hell despite being listed as a variant at the USGS site. By Hell was the nickname of a person who operated a gambling room and saloon in one of the first buildings in Woodland. He was indicted by the grand jury for unknown charges and left town. Woodland flag

The flag created by Devin Cook is inaccurate. If there was an obvious way to change it, I would. Deadcatalley (talk) 17:31, 8 August 2010 (UTC)deadcatalley

  • I will be glad to repair the design. I personally think the design of that flag is ingenious - combining the trees of Woodland with the California design. If you have any links to a hi-res image or official mockup, I can fix the file. Cheers! :) -DevinCook (talk) 23:35, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
    • Hmmm. The only other place on the internet that I found that flag was on http://www.valleytirewoodland.biz/8601.html and it seems to be identical to the one Wikipedia has. Deadcatalley, if you could provide an online copy we could see if there are any differences. DevinCook seems particularly apt at image work. :-) Killiondude (talk) 03:47, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
  • I updated the graphic with an accurate one. Enjoy! -DevinCook (talk) 01:38, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Yolo City

Re: this edit, the town was called Yolo City, but it probably didn't last long. From Shipley's Woodland, City of Trees: A History, "In 1856 Clark Elliott establish a carriage factory in McClure's blacksmith shop. That year Wyckoff, moved his business to a new building he named 'Yolo City.' Yolo City was located at what is now Court and Sixth streets, near the Sacramento-Cacheville (Yolo) road."

I'm not going to undo the edit because I don't think I agree with having bolded "alternative names" that were probably only used for a few years over 150 years ago. Killiondude (talk) 05:09, 16 June 2015 (UTC)
