Name edit

I don't understand why Ali Ufki redirects here instead of the other way around. Judging from the article, this man spent the greater part as "Ali Ufki". Live Forever 13:15, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

At first, I had named the article "Ali Ufki", but moved the contents of the article to its current location as soon as I found out that in the few scientific articles I came across, the man is called Bobowski, and not Ali Ufki. Besides, Wojciech Bobowski is the name he was born as, and he was most likely also baptised under that name. --Benne ['bɛnə] (talk) 17:25, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'm not about to contest this or anything as I don't think it's that big of a deal. However, the fact that he was born with this name doesn't say much; just look at Cassius Clay. Live Forever 18:44, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Was Wojciech Bobowski really a convinced muslim? edit

Or did he secretly keep his christian faith? Didn't he maybe hope to make the christian faith more known in the Ottoman Empire? And another point: Wasn't the language of the ottoman empire quite different from modern Turkish? So how could Bobowski's translation be used even in the 20th century?

From what I read and know - he drank and translated the Bible and asked several times to be transported back to England or Netherlands, so he's likely a secret Christian who did not want to lose the benefits of his position by leaving the Ottoman Empire — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.174.216.5 (talk) 08:55, 26 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
