More than a wired one

There are mutliple differences between a router and a wireless router. Configuration of the two devices is much different, and there are specific configuration and troubleshooting steps for wireless routers that differ significantly from other routers.

Furthermore, wireless routers provide bridging capabilities that other types of routers do not. The differences are not trivial. This article is therefore significant and unique. Perspectoff (talk) 17:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC)perspectoff

Very well; this seems a useful article even in its current somewhat rough state. As it happens, I don't know a lot about the topic, particularly the ways in which a wireless router differs from a Wireless access point and from a WAP and wired router combined. Relationship to Wi-Fi?

Could someone please add a brief mention of the term "Wi-Fi" with an explanation of how that term relates to "Wireless router"? This mention should link to the separate wireless router article. To me, Wi-Fi and WLAN refer to a "network", while "wireless router" is a piece hardware used to create a "wireless network". However, I don't know well enough to be sure.

The two terms are often used interchangeable. If they are are synonyms, then the two articles should be merged. I think there are subtle differences in the meanings of the two terms, and the articles should reflect that. I did not find a clear explanation of the difference between the two terms in skimming the two articles and some apparent interchangeable use of the terms. Could someone fix that?

Example: I have two wireless routers with different passwords in a LAN. Do I have one Wi-Fi or two? Should I program the two with the same password, and would that convert my LAN from two Wi-Fis to one? Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 15:28, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Open-source router firmware

So obviously based on my edits this is my interest. Some things I've declined to mention (yet):

• Netgear is another company which has come out in support, with myopenrouter.com - but I'm not sure what their response is to the 2016 FCC ruling
• Atheros chips seem to be better under OpenWrt, but haven't seen a reliable source on that exactly; the other major source of chips is Broadcom

• Qualcomm_Atheros#Free_and_open-source_software_support compared to Broadcom#Broadcom_and_Linux

• There are a couple major wikis, e.g., http://techinfodepot.info/wiki/TechInfoDepot:Main_Page and https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Main_Page

Features / Last feature / Last sentence: Typo

The sentence "So, can be inserted a mobile broadband USB adapter into the router to share the mobile broadband Internet connection through the wireless network." might be intended to be read as "So, a mobile broadband USB adapter can be inserted into the router to share the mobile broadband Internet connection through the wireless network.". The change is a single cut-and-Paste.

I have implemented this suggestion. I made some improvements. Further improvements to this passage are possible and welcome. ~Kvng (talk) 15:04, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
