's game of the century featured a knight-rook windmill, iirc, or is that not a windmill? if it is, should it be mentioned? Cannibalicious! 11:33, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nimzovich's "Rook Windmill" edit

In My System" Nimzovich describes the following position, if I remember right:

5
abcdefgh
8

8
77
66
55
44
33
22
11
abcdefgh

Nimzovich wrote that White wins after 1.Rh7+ Kg8 2.Rfg7+ Kf8 3.Rxc7! threatening 4.Rh8#. Black has no choice but to return with 3...Kg8 in order to avoid mate. White then chops off another Black pawn with 4.Rcg7+ Kf8 5.Rxb7!, and then the knight goes after 5...Kg8 6.Rbg7+ (and not 6.Rxa7?? a1=Q) Kf8 7.Rxa7! Rxa7 8.Rxa7 and White next move captures Black's a-pawn. Normally this is not considered a windmill however.
