I took the liberty of removing the following paragraph altogether:
"The French title is capable of multiple translations, as terre can mean "land", "world", or "clay", and it can also be a homophone for "taire" ("to silence", or "silencing"). "homme" can be translated as "men" or "people".
I'm sorry to say this is a misinterpretation and a complete nonsense - trust me, I'm French! "Terre" in this context only means Earth, and nothing else. Linking "Terre" with its homophone "Taire" doesn't make sense in this situation whatsoever. "Hommes", in the context of the book, refers to human beings in general, and not just male humans.
