Birth date edit

http://www.familyorigins.com/users/s/t/g/Bob--Stgelais/FAMO1-0001/d596.htm#P12032 cites his bith year as 1762. Verification, please?Amber388 15:51, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The American Philosophical Society link in the article looks pretty authoritative, and it says he was born, illegitimately, in 1760, then when he was 2yo, his father "married respectively". All the other sites I can find give his birth date as 1760 or "c. 1760". Elsewhere, I found that his father married an Elizabeth Downes in 1762, and that "they had one son, William Temple Franklin" (but all other sites I can find say he was illegitimate). This page begins by saying that WTF was 15yo in 1775, which jibes with a 1760 birth.--BillFlis 17:45, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Good to know. Many thanks. Are we sure that when the father married respectively he didn't marry the child's mother?Amber388 17:53, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The APS article says the boy was sent out to foster care, and Franklin's wife, Elizabeth Downes was the daughter of a wealthy planter from the Barbadoes - definitely not the mother.Parkwells (talk) 15:07, 5 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
