I have reverted your change

I have redirected it to "William Lawrence Saunders" of the Naval Consulting Board your guy is "William Laurence Saunders". User:Richard Arthur Norton (1958- )/William Lawrence Saunders is clearly the proper target over a typo for your guy, "William Laurence Saunders (1835-1891) of North Carolina" according to the archive that houses his papers. "William Laurence Saunders, lawyer, soldier, editor, state official" according to the official North Carolina entry. All the references to him from reliable sources use the canonical spelling other than his tombstone which is not canonical. These are two different names solved by a hatnote. The middle name of William L. Saunders (the Civil War colonel) is spelled both as "Laurence" [1] and as "Lawrence" [2]. Redirecting William Lawrence Saunders to William L. Saunders is therefore appropriate. Redirecting it to Naval Consulting Board, which mentions someone else named "William Lawrence Saunders" who apparently does not even have an article, is less appropriate. I see that you've just changed your original comment, so I'll respond to what you've added. First, you say that the tombstone is somehow less canonical than the archive, but I don't see why that is. And second, if we had two different articles, one about each person, then I would be happy to solve the problem with a hatnote. But that's not what we have—only one of the two people currently has an article. (If you do move the draft in your userspace to the mainspace at some point, that will solve the problem—as far as I can tell, our disagreement is only relevant as long as only one William L. I'm not exactly sure who's on which side anymore considering it appears that some of the original comments were redacted, but at any rate, the redirect as is (William Lawrence Saunders → Naval Consulting Board) makes the most sense because William L. Saunders is clearly a different person. What doesn't make sense, though, is the hatnote: For the chairman of Ingersoll Rand, see William Lawrence Saunders. because Ingersoll Rand isn't even mentioned in the latter article.
