I'm having a hard time finding a good reference for the actual day Law died. I can only find the year. If someone could find it, it would be appreciated. Also, I can't find much information about his time as president of the reformed church or how he was selected and such. Epachamo 00:02, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

I reverted the edits stating that William Law was commiting adultery. Perhaps the person who edited it was thinking of John C. Bennett. William Law believed polygamy WAS adultery, which was his main beef with Joseph Smith. I also took out the edit saying it was common practice for city councils to order the destruction of printing presses. I find that really hard to believe, especially in light of the fact that the mormons were so furious when there own printing press was destroyed in Missouri. If it was common practice and ok, why did they cry that it was illegal and wrong(which it was)? How many printing presses were destroyed on the american frontier to make it become a "common practice." Please, before adding the information back in find a source. I removed the section claiming that "some" historians thought Law might have had some involvement in organising the mob. You MUST reference such a claim. If you can provide no reference to independent historians, then it can't be allowed to stand.

Also I removed the emotive word "brutally" as all murders are, by definition, brutal...172.159.93.235 22:42, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

I still think Joseph Smith's murder was especially brutal. They shot him while inside the room, he jumped out the window and they shot him some more, then they took his dead corpse and layed it up against a well and riddled him with more bullets. Was it brutal? If this cannot be given the label brutal, then I don't know what can. Epachamo 23:21, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

On checking the alleged "boast" by William Law I find that the letter refferenced to showed NO evidence of a boast by Law. So for that reason I removed that paragraph and the link. 172.159.93.235 00:23, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I removed information about the church Sidney Rigdon founded. It does not pertain to this article, nor was Law in any way affiliated with the church Rigdon founded. I also moved the section discussing when Law founded his church to a location that should make this more clear. Epachamo 07:16, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

POV problem

I've changed the sentence "For many years, Law was falsely accused of being a member or a leader of the mob that killed Smith" to remove the word "falsely". That takes a stance on the truth, whereas this issue is inconclusively discussed in the rest of the paragraph. According the rest of the paragraph, Law was not in Carthage at the time of the killings, though he had been there earlier that day. As noted, it's unclear from the accusations whether the some accusers were claiming he was actually in the "mob" or whether they were saying he was a behind-the-scenes leader for the mob action. As far as I know, the issue of whether he was a behind-the-scenes leader is unresolved and will probably never be known one way or the other. Good Ol’factory ^(talk) 05:09, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Bad Reference?

Why does the first reference have a future date (August 15, 2014) for the retrieval of the information? Obviously this is a mistake--is the reference itself correct? JohnnyBeRealGood (talk) 07:51, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Looks like it was supposed to be "2013"—the edit in question was made on 2013-08-15. The reference itself seems fine. Good Ol’factory ^(talk) 21:48, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
