Talk:William Howard Taft University

I removed the "bar pass rate" info because it was out of place in the article. The school has been around since 1976--a snapshot of two groups taking the bar exam is not enough to derive any statistical significance. 64.122.82.126 (talk) 16:24, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

May 14 Edit edit

The May 14th edit reverted the page to an 8th month old version without any discussion or reasoning. The version fails to hold a Neutral Point of View, employing biasing negative language and citing an 11 year old document that has no relevance to the current state of the Educational Institution in question. I am reverting this revision as well as removing a section of un-cited claims about program exclusivity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.106.56.242 (talk) 18:13, 23 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Anyone who checks the history can see that the information I'm restoring was removed in September 2010 but restored by a different series of editors. The pre-May 14 version is just a big ad that promotes the university. It's a pretty big deal to get refused permission to operate in a state. How many universities has that ever happened to? I am restoring the information. 50.19.136.198 (talk) 15:38, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Info is 13 years old and does not deserve own section. Besides, it is now an on-line institution without fixed-facility campuses.--S. Rich (talk) 18:36, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • I'm not sure I agree it is relevant in 2011 without having a fully fleshed out history section to include it in. It certainly has no impact on the parent institute's current state of accreditation. But while we discuss it I can at least make the section factually correct with updates to the language. Contradiction edit

Awarded DETC accreditation in 2003 or suspended in 2003? --S. Rich (talk) 18:43, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • My understanding is that in 2003 DETC did not accredit doctoral programs and to obtain DETC accreditation they dropped their EDD program until such time that the DETC did accredit doctoral programs. COI Declaration: Please see my user page. Eclark42 (talk) 19:25, 26 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Cut material re non-approval in Illinois edit

The following material was cut from the article as WP:CHERRY:

In 1999 a staff member of the Illinois Board of Higher Education reviewed an application to operate by an entity known as William Howard Taft University of Illinois. William Howard Taft University of Illinois was affiliated with the California based William Howard Taft University. The staff member expressed concerns that the University had low academic standards and was intentionally misleading students, specifically stating:

... [T]he institution is not presently prepared to commit to quality standards, and will not begin to develop comprehensive learning outcomes measures for at least two years after enrolling its first students. Language employed by the institution's application and promotional materials is of a style that employs ambiguity to evade and/or mislead. Where staff has probed to determine whether substance underlies several such vague representations, responses have tended to be evasive or establish conclusively that the institution does not have a comprehensive plan or policies in place that can assure that appropriate criteria are met. In short, the more staff learns about this institution, the greater its concern.[1]

William Howard Taft University of Illinois had the same president, academic dean, and faculty as William Howard Taft University's original campus.[1] William Howard Taft University of Illinois withdrew its application and the Illinois campus was dissolved in 1999. The Illinois campus never enrolled students.

Interested editors are certainly welcome to discuss this cut material IOT revise it and perhaps restore it as appropriate. (And, to assist in the discussion, here are search results from the Illinois Board's website: [1] ) --S. Rich (talk) 22:20, 26 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
