Haines Box Office Appeal and Importance to MGM edit
While William Haines was a very important and valuable star to the MGM studio, he was not its most important male star, as originally asserted in the article. The greatest box office success of the 1920's was an MGM film from 1925 called The Big Parade starring John Gilbert, who had appeared the previous year in another blockbuster, He Who Gets Slapped, which also starred another important MGM male star, Lon Chaney, as well as Norma Shearer. He Who Gets Slapped was MGM's first release after the merger of Metro Pictures with Goldwyn Picture Corporation. Gilbert became known as the screen's great lover after the death of Rudolph Valentino and was an important asset to the studio, particularly with the teaming of Gilbert with Greta Garbo and even in aiding in the rise of Joan Crawford as a major star due to her being cast as his leading lady in two successful films. Lon Chaney was among the most popular silent film stars of all, and remains so now. Thus calling Haines MGM's most important male star is hardly justifiable.Jolly momma (talk) 16:39, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Why does Jimmie Shields redirect here? There is no information about him on this page other than an acknowledgment of his relation with William Haines.
