Both the article and the entry on Burton in DNB give his date of birth as 24 September 1804; the account of his funeral in the New York Times of 14 February 1860, though, says the inscription on his coffin read "WM. EVANS BURTON, Born Sept. 24, 1802, Died Feb. 10, 1860." This could easily be a typo, but www.familysearch.org also gives an entry for a William Evans Burton, son of William George Burton and his wife Mary, b. 24 September 1802 (but not christened until 1809).

Burton married his first wife 10 April 1823. If he was born in 1804 he'd still only be 18, but if he was born in 1802 he'd be just a few months shy of his 21st birthday.
