this:

Unlike some other high-profile African-American actors, Smith has, as of yet, shown little desire to use his popularity to try and ameliorate problems rampant in the African-American community such as reducing illiteracy, drug abuse, or teenage pregnancy and fatherless children.

By far, his best role as an actor was in the film Six Degrees of Separation. " ---has been removed due to non-neutral POV. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.123.104.6 (talk) 06:21, 21 February 2005 (UTC)

Admitted to MIT??

In an interview with Wired, Will Smith says he didn't apply.

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.07/smith.html

"Like when you were recruited by MIT, but didn't apply. Yeah. I never had any intention of going. My mother graduated from Carnegie Mellon. She was very serious about college, but I wanted to rap."

Nothing personal against Mr. Smith, but the Wired journalist was probably just reciting an urban legend. And Will was appeasing him.

Look - can we just leave out the entire MIT thing. Is it really necessary to include? Smith has nothing to do with MIT.

"My mother, who worked for the School Board of Philadelphia, had a friend who was MIT’s admissions officer. I had pretty good high school marks and they needed black kids, so I probably could have got in. But I had no intention of going to university." - Will Smith

SAT Verbal score source?

What exactly is the source that Will got 800 on his Verbal SAT? 24.199.113.234 22:04, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Politics

  • Is Will active in politics? It seems to me that such a driven man who has achived such fame and fortune will eventually want to be part of the government. history has shown that popularity is key to winning an election and Will seems to have the charisma and supprt (among other things) to make it possible.

No, i am not active in politics

Strange Redirect

This is weird, the entry "Aww Hell Naw" directs to Will Smith. Not that I was searching for Aww Hell Naw, it appeared on the list after I did a search and I had to know what it was.

He often says "aww, hell, naw" in his films (see: I, Robot for example). It's sort of a catchphrase for him, like "I'll be back" is for Arnold Schwarzenegger. -- Jalabi99 10:18, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Trivia

Took out kinda incongruous trivia fact - not worth it IMO.... Petesmiles 05:18, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

* Speaks fluent Spanish I took out this row. He does not speak fluent Spanish. He appeared in the mexican TV Show "Otro Rollo" and he was able to say one or two words in Spanish but really too far from "fluent".

Not sure if this is worth including, but Will Smith's family dog Luigi appears on several episodes of Dog Whisperer. Cesar Millan acknowledges this in one episode titled (if I recall correctly) Dog Psychology Center. ----Andy 23:47, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Update: the episode is titled Power of the Pack and a reference can be found [here on tv.com]. --Andy 22:18, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Accuracy/Flow

First, "I ain't black, I'm just dirty." - is that really a quote by him? Seems like a prank. Second, what on earth is 'cut-up behavior'? That type of slang is not really encyclopedic. Finally, the entire article needs betterformatting - it just doesn't flow very well at all. Maybe more about his family, to whom he's stayed close throughout his career? Istvan 08:40, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

The phrase "cut-up behavior" is perfectly good English and therefore I see no problem with it being in this article, as it does accurately describe his high school behavior. I do agree with you, though, that the flow of this article is a little clumsy, and could do with some work. I hope I remember to come back to it and try and improve the flow a little bit. -- Jalabi99 10:20, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

"Cut-up behavior" isn't a phrase I've ever come across and I don't know what it means. A quick Google just returned a single reference to Joe Walsh and links to variations on the paragraph here. It hardly seems common-place and I agree with User:Istvan that it's not encyclopaedic. Sharm 12:55, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

What was that for that was a very interesting triva

Needs Editing

The whole Trivia section needs editing, because part of it is in fragments and the rest is complete sentences. It will sound better if it isn't a little of both.--Martin925 02:30, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Whats his next album

Do anybody know will smith next album would be

Rubik's Cube?

He had to learn how to solve a Rubik's Cube in Pursuit of Happyness, and was taught by cube champions Tyson Mao and his brother Toby.

Can anyone cite this? I remember him solving a Rubik's Cube very quickly on an episode of Fresh Prince.

I remember that vividly, too. He's at "Princeton" in front of the Dean. The Dean picks up his Rubik's Cube to try and change it while talking to Will. Eventually, the dean is frustrated with it and slams on his desk. Adding to that he says it's impossible to solve. Will gets up to leave, then takes the cube, solves it in 15 or so seconds and slaps it back on the dean's desk. It awes the guy so much he wants to put Will in Princeton. That is probably the only scene I remember from all of Fresh Prince. That needs a citation. Also needs to add that he has handled a Rubik's Cube before in Fresh Prince. AJFederation 08:20, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
The Rubik's cube reference is not to Fresh Prince episodes, but rather something much more recent. I spoke with Lars Petrus recently - Will Smith has studied personally with both Petrus and the Mao brothers for an upcoming role in the film 'Persuit of Happyness' [[1]]. This story [[2]] about cubing references the film, and see the July 28, 2006 listing on this page [[3]]. This article [[4]] quotes the Mao brothers claiming to have taught Will Smith. --Leperflesh 00:17, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Some more references: Mainstream media: [5]Tyson Mao: [6]Toby Mao and Will photo:[7]--Leperflesh 02:11, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

i remember that episode he impresses the person from the college with by completing the rubix cube and the man says he has been trying to do it for ages

Where is his single charts

Can anybody get a chart of will smith's discography please thank you.

Trivia
  • Will Smith is an enthusiast for the game of chess.
  • He says he has a very healthy relationship with God, due to a Christian upbringing, and has always lived a very moral life. He is strongly opposed to the beliefs of fundamentalist Christians; for example, he criticises them in the track "Ms. Holy Roller."
  • Turned down the role of Neo in The Matrix in favor of Wild Wild West, then after watching Keanu Reeves' performance, didn't think he would've been smart enough as an actor to have played the role at the time.
  • Considers Wild Wild West the worst movie he starred in and admits passing on The Matrix to be a big mistake.
  • Will Smith is one of only two hip-hop artists to receive an Academy Award nomination in an acting category (Best Actor, Ali, 2001). [The other is Queen Latifah (Best Supporting Actress, Chicago (Chicago 2002 film), 2002)]. Queen Latifah guest-starred in a 1991 episode of Fresh Prince, 'She ain't Heavy'.
  • Height: 6'2"(187cm) He has been this tall since he was the age of 13.
  • After rapper Bow Wow called Will Smith a bubble gum rapper due to his softer, more gentle approach to hip-hop, Will responded saying "I don't have to respond to an immature, spoiled child." As of April 6, 2006, Bow Wow and Will Smith sat down and talked out their differences. Bow Wow and Smith have officially placed the feud in the past.
  • Known for his profanity-free lyrics, Will Smith has said "fuck" (although it was bleeped out) in only one of his songs, "Tell Me Why" (From his album Lost & Found). He also used "bitch" in "You Saw My Blinker" off his album Homebase during his Fresh Prince years.
  • Goes with his mother once a year every year to Canyon Ranch spa in Tucson, Arizona for a week, calling it his "mother-son bonding time."
  • Favorite NBA team is the LA Lakers and holds a regular season ticket.
  • Was considered for the role of John Smith in the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith; Brad Pitt eventually received the role.
  • Remains good friends with Tatyana Ali, his former co-star on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air".
  • Went on a strict workout routine to gain weight for his role in Ali.
  • Names Harrison Ford his inspiration for getting into acting. Also names Star Wars his favorite film of all time.
  • His catch phrase is "Awww, hell no." Most of his films have that line somewhere in the story.
  • Smith and his family reside in Star Island in Miami, Florida.
  • Like Smith, Hitch co-star Kevin James starred in a sitcom named for royalty, The King of Queens. Smith is also a big fan of The King of Queens, and he selected James for the role of Albert in Hitch.
  • Appears as himself in Kevin Smith's Jersey Girl delivering the Silent Bob speech that appears in nearly all Kevin Smith movies. Ironically, the lead character in the movie is only in the position he is in because he said "Will Smith is just a rapper".
  • Smith refused to kiss a male in the movie "Six Degrees of Separation". It only appears that they kissed with the use of a sliding camera trick along with sound effects.
  • Smith was the model for the NPC Agent Marco in the MMORPG MapleStory, quite obviously due to his role in Men in Black.
  • After graduating high school, Smith was offered a scholarship to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Instead, he chose to pursue his musical career.

Oh sorry didn't know But due can't you get a better picture

Not everyone is willing to release an image under a free content license. You can ask permisssion to a copyright holder for a better image of Will Smith. Like publicity office of Will Smith (if exists). See Wikipedia:Example requests for permission for examples. Garion96 (talk) 01:42, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

wikipedia atuthorizes the mention of fan sites, right?

wikipedia authorizes the mention of fan sites, right?!

SilicOn, stop suppressing such links please!thanks.

WP:EL expressly forbids the mention of any fan sites. HawkerTyphoon 13:52, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

hey, you can read?!

"If there are many fansites for the topic covered by the article, then providing a link to one major fansite (and marking the link as such) may be appropriate."

Yes I can and it says "may". Prove that your fansite is "the major" one. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 14:34, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

The fansite I mention ( wwww.jazzyjefffreshprince.com ) is the biggest fansite about Will! The site is very informative. It is really complete! And the forum has the more members among all the will smith fansites! Prove the contrary! I give you the right to delete my link if you do it! Moreover, I think you all should verify BEFORE suppressing blindly. Thanks.

Sorry squire - you have to prove to us, not the other way round. HawkerTyphoon 17:43, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

You know the site www.jazzyjefffreshprince.com is really THE major fansite about Will but, anyway, it is said in the rules "link to ONE major fansite", which means it's not necessarily THE major fansite ("If there are many fansites for the topic covered by the article, then providing a link to one major fansite (and marking the link as such) may be appropriate.") But I repeat: it IS the major one! Believe me or correct me!

Alright, at a glance, it seems that Mr Smith has several fan sites. It seems yours doesn't appear in the top 30 of a Google search. As a rule, fan sites should not be in Wikipedia, unless they have a specific reason for being so - can you prove to us, using reliable sources where possible, that your fan site is the biggest, and the best out there, and that you are not using Wikipedia to advertise your site? Furthermore, your site seems to violate the rules on External Links, in that you encourage advertising on it openly ("If you would like to add advertising to this website, or any promotional material please feel free to contact me.")[8]. It also has a store - not that that's nescessarily a bad thing, but there isn't really anything that sets you out apart from the other hundreds of fan sites out there. HawkerTyphoon 19:33, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Ok, "Mr Smith has several fan sites":thank you, you recognize that the topic "Will Smith" has many fansites. Therefore the rule saying If there are many fansites for the topic covered by the article, then providing a link to one major fansite (and marking the link as such) may be appropriate." can be applied... "It seems yours doesn't appear in the top 30 of a Google search.": let's be clear, I'm not the owner of the site you know... Moreover, if it doesn't appear in the top 30 it is above all because the name of the url doesn't contain "will smith" but "fresh prince" so when you type "will smith" with google you don't discover it in the first results... Anyway, no wikipedia rule says "your site has to appear in the top 30 of a Google search!" In addition, you can find "poor" (in informations) will smith fan sites in the first results of a google search so... "As a rule, fan sites should not be in Wikipedia, unless they have a specific reason for being so ":it's just false: "If there are many fansites for the topic covered by the article, then providing a link to one major fansite (and marking the link as such) may be appropriate." In fact, the only specific reason is :"many fansites for the topic"! And it's justified: a lot of fansites talk about Will Smith! "can you prove to us, using reliable sources where possible, that your fan site is the biggest, and the best out there, and that you are not using Wikipedia to advertise your site?": the fansite is the biggest (it has the more members), it is the most informative, the forum is very active... "that you are not using Wikipedia to advertise your site":no, you know it's not mine. I just considere that it is so complete that it deserves to be mentionned on a wikipedia page! "Furthermore, your site seems to violate the rules on External Links, in that you encourage advertising on it openly (...)It also has a store - not that that's nescessarily a bad thing":Here is the rule : "Links intended to promote a site, especially if that site's primary purpose is to advertise or sell products or services, or if the site requires payment to view the relevant content. This is colloquially known as external link spamming. ": the primary purpose of "my" site is giving informations!

Can you prove to us, using reliable sources, that your fan site is the biggest, and the best out there? HawkerTyphoon 21:53, 28 October 2006 (UTC): I repeat: the fansite is the biggest (it has the more members), it is the most informative, the forum is very active...
Who says its the biggest? You need to prove it's the biggest, using WP:RS. I could say that my Will Smith Fansite is the biggest - but unless I can prove it, It can't go on. Is it on any fan listing sites as being the biggest? Has it been mentioned in any newspapers as being the biggest, or on TV?HawkerTyphoon 23:31, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't really have to prove it's the biggest:"If there are many fansites for the topic covered by the article, then providing a link to one major fansite (and marking the link as such) may be appropriate." But anyway it IS the biggest! 1550 registered members, more than 150 000 posts. In addition, the first will smith podcast in the world that can give you the latest news is...: http://www.jazzyjefffreshprince.com/multimedia/will-smith-podcast.htm Morevover, Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff visited the website! In addition, all the webmasters of the other main will smith fansites are members of the site!

Plus, I'm not spamming! I give arguments!

Why not submit the problem to the arbitration committee?

You still haven't proved anything - how do we know that there aren't other sites with 2000 members and 500,000 posts? I know it sounds silly, and you can happly take this to an RfC or even and RfA, but I'm against fan sites, and you haven't proved that there's anything special about it! Why should we put this one on, and not one of the other major fansites? HawkerTyphoon 12:31, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
You keep quoting that phrase. However, you seem to be missing the point, it says "If there are many fansites for the topic covered by the article, then providing a link to one major fansite (and marking the link as such) may be appropriate." What makes this better than any other fansite out there. Please don't repeat what you have said before but point out links to prove your previous points. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 13:23, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

You don't understand. There AREN'T any other major fansite! If you were a will smith fan, believe me, you would know that! The other will smith fansites aren't updated or have no forum or have only a few members... There aren't other sites with 2000 members and 500,000 posts! Do the researches on the web! I precise that the site exists since 10 years. It's a serious site! You may be against fansites but wikipedia is not YOUR site... Wikipedia accepts the mention of fansites. Respect the rules please!

You need to prove that there aren't any other major fansites out there! Wikipedia accepts a single fansite, maybe, but it needs to be proven that it's worthy of inclusion - What we want from you is links from websites that fit the guidelines at WP:RS, that prove you are the biggest and best fan site out there by far. If you don't provide reliable sources, or there are no reliable sources, then as a rule you won't be linked to. HawkerTyphoon 17:32, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
I don't need to do the research. You need to provide sources to prove your point. You are just repeating yourself and not providing any references to back you up. As to the rules read Wikipedia:Reliable sources#Requesting sources. Do you see the line that says "The burden of evidence lies with the editor who has made the edit in question, and any unsourced material may be removed by any editor." So where are your sources and please do not repeat your claims. We heard them the first time. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 01:03, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

It seems you heard but you ignored. And I can't prove it's the best fansite:it's subjective in a way. And I just have to prove it's one major fansite. I think I did it!
