“all four kinds of great apes” edit

Untitled edit

  • Today, gorillas and orang-utans are divided into two species each, so there are six species of great apes.
  • In 2010, the last chimpanzees left Wilhelma for Veszprém, Hungary. The construction of a new ape house has started, which will offer more space to only three species. So the number of ape species is no more extraordinary.
  • Worth noticing instead: Within Europe, Wilhelma has been collecting for decades a considerable experience with the growing of young gorillas in the hatchery, so abandoned youngsters from many counties come to Stuttgart for being socialized.

The article states "kinds" not species. I have added the "four kinds" as stated by the zoo (with citation). I found a source for the new ape house, but not that the zoo will only have 3 species (or kinds) in the future. I also found a reference to the abandoned apes, though it is brief and a better source would be appreciated. Donlammers (talk) 16:22, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
It remains true that the chimpanzees left the Wilhelma a while ago. You may quote www.wilhelma.de/fileadmin/pdf/Tiere_und_Pflanzen/S%C3%84UGETIERE_2011.pdf:
Pongidae
Flachland-Gorilla – Gorilla g. gorilla – Western Lowland Gorilla
Bonobo – Pan paniscus – Pygmy Chimpanzee
Sumatra-Orang-Utan – Pongo pygmaeus abelii – Sumatran Orang-Utan
