Notability

My PROD tag was removed, but I'm still not sold that this guy is actually notable. If he is, I REALLY don't think it's under WP:PROF, but rather under WP:GNG. His entire claim to fame seems to be that he was an UNdistinguished professor who was put into a position of academic responsibility more for his Nazi sympathies than for his actual qualifications, which would argue highly against academic notability. • I agree that he was not notable as a theoretical physicist, which indeed rules out WP:PROF. Rather, he is notable because of the way he was appointed to Sommerfeld's chair without any particular qualifications except his anti-Jewish writings, and held it until the end of the war. Thus he is significant historically, and it seemed to me that English readers who click on his name should have something to land on, therefore I created this article, as a rough translation of the German one. • Yeah his appointment's really what's notable, not him. All indications I've seen are that he was more or less a placeholder until the end of WW2. I definitely wouldn't consider him notable under WP:PROF but I think his career is an interesting footnote in the scientific history of the time. That said, I've only seen mentions of him in the wider context of German science and engineering in the war, never on his own merit AlchemistsFire (talk) 17:56, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
