Extra info

I've access to Nintendo's press site, so I have quite a bit of info that could be added, but I'm not exactly a Wikipedia veteran. In fact, I struggled to work out how to do this... Anyway, here's some information:

Tennis(1-4 players): Players grab the controller like a racket and swing- the game will register forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin, and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don't worry about moving around the court to get to the ball- the game automatically moves players into position

Baseball(1-2 players): Grip the controller like a bat and swat fastballs out of the park in a home run derby. Timing and bat speed will make all the difference between going yard and whiffing, so keep an eye on the ball and swing for the fences. In the two player game, one player pitches and the other bats.

Golf(1 player): Step up to the tee, hole the controller like a golf club and swing naturally to smack the ball onto the green. The harder players swing the club, the further the ball will fly, so be sure to take some practice swings before going for the pin. After reaching the green, line up putts carefully, practice the stroke and try to hole out.

Release Date

What is the source saying it will be a launch game? I haven't seen any site mention this. Spyke 02:11, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

The first link to IGN's running blog of E3 makes a mention about Wii Sports being launched alongside the Wii as announced by Iwata.

Wii Motor Sports

It appears that there will be two different games, Wii Sports, as well as Wii Motor Sports. Wii Motor Sports will include at least Airplane and Jet Ski games. I'd say it's probably premature to do so, as the article is a little barren as it is. Probably best to keep the info in this article, and make this about the whole Wii Sports franchise. I'm sure that as we learn more about the games, there will come a time to split off articles on the individual games, but I don't think that time is now. Games included

Regarding the line saying there might be up to 30 games included in Wii sports, I think that's probably safe to say by now is not correct. Take a look at http://www.britishgaming.co.uk/?p=1390 for what apparently is the final box art. The only games shown are the 5 already shown by Nintendo; boxing, tennis, golf, baseball and bowling. Ok then that's a solid idea. However, it is possible they could be unlockables. And if so, it makes sense why there would only be 5 games on the cover, as they may be unlockable from the start. When the game comes out, we can surely tell (i will get the Wii on launch, so i may edit the article on that day.) They don't have to show every game on the box art. Take Clubhouse Games. You only see ten items on there, but there are actually 42 games. Of course, about half of them are card games, but other games aren't shown at all. So we can't just go off on the box art. Hbdragon88 02:47, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Bundled with the Wii indefinitely

Do we knoe if wii sports will be bundled with the wii for the life of the console, or is this more a tempoary promotion to get users acquainted at launch? Usually, games are bundled with a system for a limited time. That happened with Metroid Prime Hunters:First Hunt and Mario Kart DS on the DS, for example. Wii Sports should no longer be bundled with the Wii for a month. Japan became a first-world country after a bomb wiped out everyone. Not the first inclusion since the SNES

Actually, I didn't do my homework either - SMW wasn't bundled with the SNES. The last Nintendo console (handhelds aside) to be bundled witha a game in its default retail form was NES with its SMB, and that's obviously the point of this trivia, because it can't mean the first Mario game being a launch title since X (Wii Sports isn't a Mario game) and it can't mean first Nintendo launch title since X (all Nintendo consoles had Nintendo launch titles). The VB is far from handheld so stop calling it that. It's also not a console in the 'connect-to-tv' sense. The controller is not built into the main system, making it like a console but unlike a handheld in that sense. The screen is built into the system much like handhelds, but unlike consoles. It is also important to note that it doesn't fit in your hands. It's best described as a hybrid of the two. There is an argument for those who feel that the VB is a console but it's pack-in game-ness is not importantly relevant to the article and no one really needs to debate this. Airplane?

Why is the Airplane game not mentioned in the article. It didn't make the final game, but was at E3 2006 along with Tennis, Golf and Baseball. U-Mos 19:57, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

It was never announced as part of the game. At E3, Wii Sports was just a series of tech demos and not an actual game yet. Airplane is part of the heavily rumored (and basically confirmed) Wii Motor Sports. TJ Spyke 23:04, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Nintendo World Event and Japanese Event

It says in the article that Wii Sports Bowling and Wii Sports Boxing were first revealed in the Nintendo World event but the Japanese event which also had these games was a night (in North America) before this event. Sounds from other games

According to the trivia section, "Sounds from the game Super Mario 64 and the Animal Crossing series can be heard during a game of Bowling, when zooming in on the pins for a closer look." and "Sounds from Super Smash Bros. are in the "Swing Control" training of Baseball." Can someone please elaborate? In bowling, when one zooms in, a similar sound to the camera sound from Mario 64 appears. Is this what it refers to? I've never played Animal Crossing, so I don't know if that's in there as well. It also says "sounds," as in plural, so are there multiple sounds from these games? With the baseball one, the closest I heard was that the croud cheering sounded somewhat like the crowd cheering from Smash Bros, but most crouds sound pretty much the same, right? Not to mention, without sources, both of these would seem to count as original research and should probably be removed. Anyone want to help? -Platypus Man | Talk 16:00, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Wii / Wii Sports Prices

In the Lottery Show for the UK, there is a little tune/jingle during the show that sounds extremely similar to a jingle/tune made in Wii Sports. Is there anyone in who watches the show that can expand/corroborate upon the relationship? I won't add anything until it is confirmed, but it is an interesting piece of trivia. Homage to old skool games- should it be mentioned?

It's pretty obvious Nintendo is reinventing themselves with the Revolution, it's in the damn code name, and considering how many Wii games seem to be homages to classic NES titles, I was wondering if this should be given even a passing mention, or if it's too much in the field of OR. I mean, super paper mario takes a couple places in it's levels right out of Super Mario Bros., Excite Truck should be very obvious, and Wii Sports also seems to be references to classic NES games. Tennis (obvious), boxing is rather like Punch Out!, and i've read that the golf course is a replica of the holes from another NES game. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an NES baseball or bowling game with similarities. Censorship

It should be mentioned in this article about the censorship on the Miis. Boxing health meter

"A health meter is displayed next to the boxers, which is identical to the one in Super Mario 64." - This is inaccurate for several reasons. 

1. The health meter from mario 64 was slightly different around the edges to the one in Boxing. 2. The sections on health meter from Mario 64 changed colour as health was lost (blue --> green --> yellow --> red) in boxing they stay the same. 3. In mario 64 a piece of health is lost immediately - in boxing the piece can flask before being lost. They share a very similar design but they are definately not identical as stated. Wii Sports Experiment: Yay or Nay?

Mickey DeLorenzo of Wiinintendo.net carried out a very publicized Wii Sports weight loss experiment... Nintendo even had screens of his videos in the E3 conference. Should the experiment be mentioned?

New version?

I have reports of there being different versions of Wii Sports. Specifically a new version of it with slightly different animations and pictures regarding Wiis with the new wii jackets packaged with the wiimote. This is the original US version of Wii Sports. The baseball part begins with just going straight to the game and the catchers just hold up the ball if they catch it. The instructions at the begining are because it's a new player.

It shows the composition of the two teams before the game starts and when the catcher catches the ball they throw it to first base if it's an out. I'm a USA Wii user, and can confirm that there are indeed two different versions of Wii Sports. I bought my Wii in July 2007 and got a copy of the "old" version (it's got a 2006 copyright when the game boots up). Multiple friends who got Wiis over the last few months have the "new" version (copyright date is 2006-2007), although another who recently got a Wii (from retail) somehow got an "old" version of the software. The previous comments on the baseball game are indeed on target -- there are a multitude of minor changes to bowling and tennis, as well. I haven't tried out the "new" versions of golf or boxing, but I'd assume there are minor tweaks. The instruction screen graphics do show the Wiimote jackets, as well. I e-mailed Nintendo about the issue and they had me call customer service where the rep basically said, "I haven't heard that there's any differences, but if there are, the ones you're describing are minor enough that they don't really alter game play." He's right, I guess, but still -- I'd really hoped that Nintendo would be willing to let me exchange my "old" version for a "new" version, particularly since I bought my Wii in 2007! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.189.107.144 (talk) 18:53, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
