Requested move 10 August 2021 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. Supporters of the move point to the many entries at Wigglesworth (disambiguation) and the low absolute number of pageviews received by the village. Opposers contend that the other entries at the dab page are merely partial matches, and therefore are not viable competitors for ptopic status. The latter position ultimately enjoys a rough consensus. (non-admin closure) Colin M (talk) 19:49, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

– Given the minimal pageviews that the British village gets, a dab page at the base name would be best, per WP:NOPRIMARY. 162 etc. (talk) 20:22, 10 August 2021 (UTC) — Relisting. — Shibbolethink ( ) 01:57, 26 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Support per nom. Not the primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:50, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • The village seems to be the only thing called just "Wigglesworth", the others seem to be PTMs. Crouch, Swale (talk) 07:36, 16 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Oppose. The differences are small, but the number of visiters for the village is three times as many as the number of visitors for the disambugation page; if the village was not where readers expected to land, we would see a greater ratio travelling through the disambiguation page to their intended destination. Given that the other alternatives are all WP:PTM's, I believe the best option is to leave the article where it is. BilledMammal (talk) 04:30, 26 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oppose. As above it is the only one that isn’t PTM. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 13:20, 26 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nomination and Necrothesp. There are 25 bulleted entries under Wigglesworth (disambiguation), with no indication of anything being primary, leaving the eight-sentence stub for the village/civil parish, population 379, listed under section header "Places", as the default primary topic, although that entry does not even attempt to overwhelm the combined prominence of the other 24 entries. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 21:41, 26 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, This is the only article with the exact name. On the list page several names do not have separate articles and there are only a few names that start with "Wigglesworth..." one person and a few buildings. For the two Halls one links to a sub-section of an article and another is not even mentioned in the linked article. EdwardUK (talk) 19:39, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose and fix the DAB to comply with MOS:DAB. The village is the only article that could be at the base name, and there is no other topic that could qualify for a primary redirect. The hatnote on the article pointing to the DAB is quite sufficient. Andrewa (talk) 05:27, 3 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Given the absence of a substantive article about the surname, the article about the town is the only article that could occupy the base name. There are no other possible contenders for primary topic that would be known solely as "Wigglesworth". Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:35, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Village or Hamlet edit

As the settlement has no parish church, shouldn't it be classed as a hamlet? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 07:06, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Murgatroyd49 You are right, there is no church, and the number of dwellings is small, so it should be termed as a hamlet (though it does not need a parish church, just an Amglican church to be a village). The references I can find online, and in books all state it to be a village, so I say we leave it as is, because that's what the references say. Regards. Thanks, I agree, if all the refs say that. I'm don't want to be overly pedantic about these things. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 13:29, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Though interestingly Murgatroyd49, the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography state that it is a hamlet....[1] The joy of all things (talk) 18:48, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
