Typo

edit

5000 million years old? That looks like a typo, but can anyone verify it's actually 500 million? KriticKill (talk) 17:19, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Coordinate error

edit

{{geodata-check}} The coordinates need the following fixes:

  • Write here

The coordinates given are for yellowstone national park, instead of Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. 71.199.75.136 (talk) 05:47, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Coordinates have been fixed before now. BrainMarble (talk) 22:08, 20 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merge...

edit

I proposed that Charon Gardens Wilderness Area should be added to this article since it really is just a section of the refuge and doesn't need it's own article. If anybody knows the proper way of merging then please do since I don't. Crimsonedge34 (talk) 22:02, 16 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I oppose the merger proposal. Most Wilderness Areas are parts of either 1. National Parks, 2. National Wildlife Refuges, or 3. National Forests, and could (using this logic) be subsumed into the article for that relevant entity. However, I believe that most are deserving their own separate article. For consistency and to maintain the category, such Wilderness Areas should all have separate articles. Backspace (talk) 20:53, 31 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I also oppose the merger. All Wilderness areas need separate articles. Smallchief

Merge proposal: Wichita National Forest

edit

Propose merging Wichita National Forest into this article, perhaps creating a short History section.

These appear to be essentially the same land area, according to sources such as this one. The articles state land area as 57,120 acres for Wichita National Forest and 59,020 acres for Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, a difference of about three percent. Both articles state year established as 1901.   Mandruss |talk  05:28, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Frank Rush Sr

edit

Hello, my mom's mom's uncle was Frank Rush Sr, he was the Indian Agent for the Indian Territory and Supervisor at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge 1907-1935 (I think, need verify on the end date. Begin date is correct as I have photos of him picking up the bison from the NY Bronx Zoo), there is even a lake named after him in the Wichita Mountains to this day! A lot of information can be found on him on the internet and the Oklahoma Historical Society, etc. Frank married grandma's sister Mae. They lived in the little house there, with the tree supporting the roof of the porch of Franks Office. (see link to public photos below on my FB)

I don't know a lot about wikipedia and so on, but I can contribute a lot of information, photos and passed down stories from my mom's mom and my mom who grew up at Craterville Park there.

The Rush family was so successful with it, that they ended up with several amusement properties and eventually incorporated under the name Six Flags which they are still known as today.

I propose a "Frank Rush" wiki page be setup and detailed out. I can help with some of it and I'm sure I've already rang some bells with the above. Stuff that ties into this page as well as the North American Bison, LongHorn and other pages related. Like Quanah Parker, Uncle Frank's best friend. The Chief of Chiefs. These other pages, especially Quanah should definitely be linked here. It all ties together. Frank Rush knew all the great Chiefs and was well respected by them for bringing back the great spirit. (Bison)

Yes it's about time I share the information that has been passed down to me and is my Heritage. Please advise. I also have documents about the above conversation that can answer those questions about the name and so on. I don't know how to upload a photo or anything here yet, but I am a C, C++ and C# Developer. etc. (will learn fast)

Hello. Although this is technically a good place to post this, in practice it probably won't get much response since this is a very low activity article. One problem with situations of this sort is that we are all just part-time volunteers here, with our own individual areas of interest, and there is very low interest in this area. Another problem is the Wikipedia policies and guidelines that might preclude the kind of content you describe, including Wikipedia:Notability (people) and Wikipedia:Verifiability. If you think you could satisfy the requirements, I suggest you explain your situation at Wikipedia:Help desk. The responders there could better outline your available options, which would include learning to edit Wikipedia yourself. Best of luck. ―Mandruss  18:26, 30 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
