Kanye West as executive producer

edit

Should Kanye West still be listed as executive producer if he wasn't actually credited with executive production on the album? It seems to me that the only source that West is executive producer is DJ Akademiks' Twitter account--don't executive producers usually get credited as such? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greyscaleminions (talkcontribs) 11:17, 28 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Greyscaleminions. I'm not sure why West wasn't credited as an executive producer. I've added two reliable sources in the lead confirming it though. AshMusique (talk) 15:52, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
The only source I'm seeing for it is DJ Akademiks, who was paraphrasing an anonymous source. Since there's nothing from the label, Carti, or Kanye that confirms he was executive producer, I think it should be removed as just hearsay. Greyscaleminions (talk) 19:53, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Greyscaleminions: Here more sources that says Kanye West is the executive producer [1][2]. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 04:38, 6 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

There is a slight mistake on the tracklist and producer list of the tracks, on track 21 "ILoveUIHateU", the producer is simply listed as Bourne. This could be confusing to some so I would suggest you change it to Pi'erre Bourne. Thanks in advance. Thetissuebox09990 (talk) 08:15, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Whole Lotta Red is the second studio album by American rapper Playboi Carti. It was released on December 25, 2020 by Interscope Records as well as ASAP Rocky’s Label AWGE.

Highly anticipated, work on the album commenced in late 2018 and concluded in November 2020. The album consists of 24 tracks and features guest appearances from Future, Kanye West, and Kid Cudi. The album was executive produced by West, who also appears on the song “Go2DaMoon”. The album was supported by 12 singles “Rockstar Made”, “Stop Breathing”, “Beno!”, “Slay3r”, “New Tank”, “Vamp Anthem”, “New N3on” which was leaked in 2018, “Control”, “Place” which was also leaked in 2018, “Sky”, “Over” and “Go2DaMoon”. Production was also handled by Carti’s frequent collaborator and producer Pi’erre Bourne, along with Maaly Raw and Wheezy, among others. Whole Lotta Red received positive and mixed reviews from music critics and fans alike and debuted atop on the US Billboard 200, earning 100,000 album-equivalent units of which 10,000 were pure sales, becoming Carti’s first US number-one album.2603:6010:AE04:D4DD:F97B:4DE1:3CF6:D7BE (talk) 20:28, 7 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Should be put under the category "Vampires in music"

edit

The album is literally based around vampires and vampire aesthetics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Genreeditor8 (talkcontribs) 17:03, 11 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Multiple versions of the album?

edit

shouldn't there be a category for the 3 versions of the album? If you guys don't know, there's V1 which was supposed to release in early 2019 but was scrapped due to the bulk of leaks coming from the album and V2 which had the lead single "@Meh" but was also scrapped due to the death of his best friend and finally V3 which is the one that we got. Yvngangel (talk) 23:28, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Yvngangel: I don't think that really needed, we going by the version that was officially released. Leaks don't count. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 00:27, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fan reception change

edit

I really think there should be a mention of how reception from fans went from horrible to amazing. There's mention of how fans disliked the album at first, but everywhere on the internet I see fans unironically calling this the greatest album of all time. It grew on people, and I think that should be represented in the article.

Music Quality

edit

Carti's music quality resembles more of gargling in his own language to the sound of hard hitting beats. His music has gone through changes. For example the song " JumpOutTheHouse" begins with squeaky voices and mega repetitive hooks. A third of the way in, he ramps it up and explodes into a loud inflection of noises. Following the lyrics for this reason is very hard due to sounds of the instruments. Carti also has a lot of hypnotic ad-libs, and shrill opulence of music taste which is what differenciates him from other rappers. Khoda025 (talk) 16:42, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[1]Reply

Khoda025 (talk) 16:55, 3 April 2022 (UTC)== Vamp-Themed ==Reply

On the vamp-themed Whole Lotta Red, Carti explores his fetish for vocal madness in a more manical way than ever before. Until now, his baby tones had almost always been padded with twinkly instrumentals that accentuated their dreamy quality. Here, dreams morph into nightmares; sinister, beats give Carti the Vampire Squeaker a demonic aura as he shrieks about killing folks and how taking his shirt off makes girls asphyxiate in awe. Where before he floated in the cosmos, now Carti has come down to conquer Earth. [2]Khoda025 (talk) 16:55, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Add this to release section or the aesthetic section. Otherwise it can be added into a section of it's own.

WLR (Whole Lotta Red) Day

WLR was released on December 25th, 2020, which is Christmas Day for those who celebrate it. The album name fits with the theme of the modern day Christmas color palette, but some may see the color red as more subversive than festive. Carti’s persona on stage is more mysterious. He is known for his gothic fashion and experimental music style. His use of Satanic imagery and vampire movie-inspired style is noticeable to his audiences, some listeners even supposedly claimed that the WLR album had a “demonic aura”, or that it “made them physically ill”. Because Christmas Day is supposed to be a wholesome religious celebration, when paired with this album, the satanic imagery and vampiric iconography does not fit with the Christmas image. The album's release date (December 25th) therefore subverted mainstream ideas about Christmas. Some of his fans even claims that the album's "one year anniversary" is more important than Christmas Day.

Proposed section: Fanbase For an artist who has a cult following as prolific as Carti, one would be remiss to not mention them, and their impact, as well as how the album was received by both them and the wider music community in general.

Header: Fanbase Content: Like many of his contemporaries who rose to prominence around the same time, Carti was propelled by a strong, heavily involved fanbase, self described as a "cult". They've found themselves congregated on various parts of the internet, but perhaps the most profound of them all is the r/playboicarti subreddit. Founded in 2016, it has quickly grown to be a hub for not just those interested in Carti and his music, but music, memes, and a variety of other topics. After news of his album "Whole Lotta Red" was released and more of the vampire themed aesthetic was formed, certain portions of the fanbase chose to call themselves "vamps", in kind with the album's gothic style. Whether it's making a meme in honor of Carti not releasing an album, talking about a fictionalized version of Carti's son named Gilbert, or depicting parallel universes in which Carti is seen as a better father, r/playboicarti is as rebellious as its namesake.

There have been certain instances of his fanbase going out of control. Playboi Carti was scheduled to perform right before Miley Cyrus on the same stage at Lollapallooza. As a result, some of the tens of thousands of individuals that attended the show were Miley Cyrus fans, who tended to be younger. The Vamps, on the other hand, gave many of the fans more than they could bear. Miley's supporters have been accused of being assaulted, thrown into mosh pits, and even having bleeding and seizures. Fans flocked to Twitter, where they were dubbed "crazy." Of course, neither the fans nor Playboi Carti are concerned about this. 2607:EA00:107:3C07:6DE6:276F:9A5F:DC1C (talk) 01:54, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sky should have its own separate page

edit

Being the most popular song on WLR, Sky should have its own seperate page of Wikipedia, like Go2DaMoon, Shoota from Die Lit and Magnolia and wokeuplikethis* from Playboi Carti/Self-Titled. WhoUsesThisWebsiteLMAO (talk) 09:09, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Carti recorded the album until December.

edit

It's common known in the community that Carti had a 16 track finished album before linked up with Kanye late November-early December and decided to record more tracks. You literally can see by the OG Files of the song that got leaked. Go2DaMoon file literally has 12/23 on it. You can see by Carti's post at the time, posting himself in Wyoming and with Cudi early Dec. I literally can give you the Go2DaMoon file that shows it was recorded around that time. Why would be November? Like literally that's non-sensical. It's been confirmed by trusted people. Joy Divizn, Carti affiliate, even by Carti himself in his Inked Mag interview. I'm not capping/baiting. It's literally true, Carti finished recording December. 168.121.193.37 (talk) 17:53, 18 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

We don't want the "OG files". We want reliable, secondary sources. Edward-Woodrow :) [talk] 18:20, 18 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
