She was never married to Kevin Braddock. Ben Craig "abducted" her from the altar, before the priest could complete the wedding ceremony. Kevin Braddock and his father, with some of their hired "security men" froze to death in the aftermath of the pursuit after Ben and Linda. Therefore Kevin cannot be the father of Linda's baby. Who then is the father? That's the beauty of Forsyth's story telling. When Ben and Linda (aka Whispering Wind) are together in the cave: "...Then there was a sound. It came to them through the night, borne by the cat's-paw wind off the mountain. It was a cry, long and clear, the voice of a young woman. It was not the cry of pain or distress but that wavering, ebbing cry of one so much in ecstasy that it defies description of repetition".

The last section of the story, Linda Pickett was actually known as "Mrs Braddock", which concludes that she did marry Kevin Braddock in the end. Kevin rode out into the wilderness, but the harshness of the weather forced him back.

US Version

Note: I must have read a different version than the author of this entry. In my US copy of the book, she did not marry Kevin. Bill Braddock died and his wife came out of her shell and ran the ranch. The wife gave Linda's father the bank back and she offered Linda a cottage on the estate. Linda attended Craig's burial after tests were concluded that Craig had died 100 years before. She was however 4 months pregnant. There was no doubt left in the book on who the father was.. -- 208.253.107.133
