Should this be merged with FM 1093? I know that each continues beyond the other, but it's still really the same road. --NE2 19:38, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

This came out of someone adding the intersections of Westheimer that occurred beyond the eastern terminus of FM 1093 to the FM 1093 article's junction list. I kept removing them and oddly enough they split this out but didn't add any of those to this article. The portion of Westheimer without the FM 1093 designation doesn't look particular notable. --Holderca1 talk 18:26, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Westheimer Road began at the portion without FM 1093. (See the history portion) I don't see how that portion is not notable while the portion in FM 1093 would be; Westheimer essentially serves the same purpose in Houston that Wilshire Boulevard does in Los Angeles. Thank you for the gentle correction regarding the difference between Westheimer Parkway and Westheimer Road. I added additional information and links to various neighborhoods through which Westheimer passes. I also added a brief section on the Parkway. I think both of these pieces of information could be valuable to visitors and new residents. Given the importance and cultural richness of Westheimer Road inside the Loop, I recommend that the Westheimer Road entry be kept separate from the FM 1093 entry.--Rpclod (talk) 14:07, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Does the older map look better? A reversion appears to have occurred. I tried to make the text more prominent and provide labels re Beltway 8 and Highway 6, but it might have become too busy.--Rpclod (talk) 12:00, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Map edit

I created the previous map but am not very pleased with it. I have created a new map
I have not yet added any labels but I was hoping to get feedback before proceeding and replacing the existing map.--Rpclod (talk) 04:58, 5 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • RPClod, I like the new version better as the colors make it easy to tell which road is Westheimer and which one is Westheimer Parkway :) - However see if it is possible to make the map's scale as large as the old one so we can see more of the surrounding area; that will show how "central" Westheimer is. Ok, how about the following as a basis?

Obviously a lot of changes are needed, but I am wonder if the geographic scope seems appropriate. I have save the original BMP so can expand the geography a little in all directions but am unsure if that adds anything. By the way, at this wider scale, the smaller roads are no longer available..--192.70.218.25 (talk) 18:24, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • That looks good so far - we can include both the larger geographic scope and smaller geographic scope maps in the article (with one maybe in the gallery section) WhisperToMe (talk) 00:55, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Technically Urban Road 1093 - not FM 1093 edit

The article currently states: "The portion spanning from Interstate 610 west to the Westpark Tollway is designated as a part of Farm to Market Road 1093." That is actually incorrect. According to the latest Highway Designation File, no part of Westheimer Road is part of FM 1093. The portion spanning from Interstate 610 west to the Westpark Tollway is now designated as a part of Urban Road 1093. Urban Road 1093 continues to State Highway 99; presumably that is Westpark Tollway frontage from where Westheimer Road terminates to Grand Parkway.

According to the Highway Designation File for FARM TO MARKET ROAD NO. 1093, FM 1093 extends:

From FM 3013 at Eagle Lake, eastward to SH 36 at Wallis; and from another point on SH 36 at Wallis, eastward via Simonton to FM 359 at Fulshear; and from FM 359 at Flewellen, northward to SH 99, a total distance of approx. 30.637 miles. (Colorado, Wharton, Austin, Fort Bend, and Harris Counties) Mileage from SH 99 eastward to IH 610 transferred to UR 1093.

Apparently this transfer was created by "Minute Order 105686, dated 06/27/1995; DesLtr 03-1995, dated 06/03/1995". (However, the same Highway Designation File lists the "Certified Mileage" for FM 1093 as 50.476 as of 2007. Also, Harris County continues to be included in the list of FM 1093 counties.) The Highway Designation File for Urban Road No. 1093 states:

From SH 99 eastward to IH 610, a distance of approx. 19.863 miles. (Fort Bend and Harris Counties) New Description.

Should the article be amended to ensure technical correctness?--Rpclod (talk) 17:52, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Yes, please do so. - Please state when the new designation came into place too. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:43, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Section Name edit

With the most recent change, two sections are now named "History". The old title to the first such section, "Criticism", relates to analysis and also to passing judgment (whether good or bad). I think most of the statements listed do inherently contain value statement and pass judgment. However, I also realize that Wikipedia articles need to be unbiased (even if cited language is biased) so "Criticism" may not be a good title. However, the section that was just renamed to "History" does not seem to be a review of the history of Westheimer Road. Thesaurus.com lists the following synonyms for "Criticism": "appraisal, appreciation, assessment, comment, commentary, critique, elucidation, essay, estimate, evaluation, examination, exposition, judgment, notice, observation, opinion, pan, rating, rave, review, reviewal, scorcher, sideswipe, sleighride, study, write-up". Or "substance, character, entity, essence, essentia, essentiality, personality, quintessence, self, soul, spirit, substance, texture"? Or "description, characterization, definition, depiction, detail, explanation, explication, narration, narrative, picture, portraiture, portrayal, presentment, sketch, vignette"? The terms in bold seem to be good candidates. Any thoughts?--Rpclod (talk) 18:07, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
