Players of note edit

I'm commencing a project, tabulating "players of note" - those who have played Test/State footy and other notable Wests players. It's an incremental process so any objections/suggestions, please reply here.--Alexio 12:23, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. Might write a decent history to go with it. It is in places like this that one remembers how much one misses the Magpies.

when did john skandalis and jason taylor represent their country?? Dogsaretalking 23:50, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good question--Jeff79 00:14, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why are there both headings for New Zealand and Australia, as well as the respective flags beside each player? Surely this is redundant? - Shudda talk 03:19, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

There are a few errors with the Australian representatives section. Including people like Taylor etc. is incorrect (as noted above) plus there are some missing as well...I can't give specific names off the top of my head though...

Western Suburbs edit

If you search the words "Western Suburbs" you reach an article for a New Zealand soccer team. I think there should be a disambiguation page. In addition to the Magpies there's also a Brisbane Western Suburbs Panthers rugby league team (maybe the same should go for Wests too). What do others think?--Jeff79 00:44, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pre joint venture were they commonly known as Western Suburbs, or the full name Western Suburbs Magpies?Theanonymousentry (talk) 12:23, 18 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
They were mostly commonly referred to as Wests or Wests Magpies, but I think full name is appropriate. Doctorhawkes (talk) 01:28, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
I'd heard Wests, Western Suburbs and Wests Magpies, but never really the full Western Suburbs Magpies. Happy to be consistent though.Theanonymousentry (talk) 07:33, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Australian Representatives edit

The list shows Shane Perry and Jason Taylor (rugby league). Are these different people than who their links take us to? Because they haven't played for Australia if they're not.--Jeff79 03:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Westsmagpies.jpg edit

Image:Westsmagpies.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Placement of Jersey box edit

Good job on the jumpers which I assume Windler did, but not sure about the positioning. Being left of page with infobox on right means for about 21 lines of copy we have a very narrow (5 word) window. Doesn't look good. How about I move them to the right under the Infobox ? -Sticks66 13:26, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah man, fiddle away with it.--Jeff79 (talk) 13:40, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wooden Spoon edit

There is the sentence on this Magpies article

The club was one of the foundation members of the Sydney rugby football league competition in 1908. Founded at a meeting on 4 February 1908, they won only one match that season so were the League's first wooden spooners.

This means that one or another article is incorrect. Wiki has an article on Wooden Spooners which has Cumberland as the 1908 wooden spooners. They repeat this on the article about Cumberland itself.

But an article on the 1908 season agrees with this article that it's Wests that deserves the title.

Both sets of articles can't all be right.

Montalban (talk) 02:41, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Back in those days..For & against was not use and no definition between team who finished on the same points..Cumberland finished with -153 whilst Wests finished with -143..So technically to the law of the rules of 1908.

Both Wests & cumberland shared the wooden spoon.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.190.17.102 (talk) 01:47, 24 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

You have Herb Gilbert on the players list as having made his debut in 1911. Yet when you click his name and check his profile page on wiki, it says he first played for Wests in 1917. After some researching, I can confirm Herb Gilbert made his debut with Wests in 1917. However there was a seperate H.Gilbert who played in 1911 for Wests. Check www.rugbyleagueproject.org for evidence.AndrewRLP (talk) 07:50, 17 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
