Added a POV check tag to this page. It sounds like it's straight from the museum's website. Prime example being: "...the Society’s headquarters on East Boulevard houses and curates an extraordinary group of distinguished collections." 129.22.18.158 (talk) 22:55, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

scandal edit

Today I added a section about an issue brought up by an article from Today's Sunday Plain Dealer. I am uncertain if there is usually much reason to object to a "white bread" article about a benign institution. However, in this case there may honestly be a reason for having the sort of information I have included there. I have been familiar with this institution for more than 40 years, mostly for some time prior to 10 years ago as a patron of their library. But this stuff seems to me to need a bit more daylight than it already has had. I think someone who knows more about this aspect of WRHS should add a bit more info too. Since discussion has not occurred on this subject, Today I am removing the neutrality tag. John5Russell3Finley (talk) 15:16, 31 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I am a bit puzzled about why someone would remove the skandal section here. It was done by an anonymous editor whose IP address was 69.54.57.210. This is clearly Vandalism, and likely self serving, and probably from someone connected to this organization. I do not expect that this will go unmolested, so rather than attempting to replace the fixes I will replace the neutrality tag. Perhaps this article needs expert attention from a neutral and uninterested party familiar with the troubles of this organization. John5Russell3Finley (talk) 17:00, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Here is a link to the actual Plain Dealer article from March 7, 2010 (updated in July) – [1]. Note: while the article has "blog" as a source, it really qualifies as WP:RS IAW WP:NEWSBLOG. --S. Rich (talk) 16:08, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm unclear why this didn't get done right, the above editor seems not to have understood the tag or known the proper way to deal with it. There is still a problem here. The spate of deaccessioning of the past decade or so is an actual Real Issue. It would really be appropriate to have someone with access to the society's records add what could easily be quite a bit of information here. I suggest a section structured about like this: (I guess it could be done in maybe about a paragraph or maybe 2)

I) Recent Events

A) Deaccessioning

1) Crawford Collection

2) Napoleon

a)The Importance of the War of 1812 in the State of Ohio
   i) Perry's victory at Put in Bay
     a] The National Monument
   ii) Ohio as Frontier
iii) The Military build-up and battles in Ohio
iiii) Numerous graves of veterans of the War in Ohio

B) rationale and reasons WRHS needed more funds

1) New Museum (the one that never occurred)

2) Stokes etal. the "ethnic" pressures

3) post Colket leaders.
