Hi

can someone help me to understand what this sentence exactly means:

The field was closed to Western firms due to years-long sanctions.

Is it about the past when (Oil for Food etc) or is it about the 2003 and after era? What does "closed" mean? Closed is the word which is confusing me since the field now is open again? I think a lot of people with bad English like me got problems, but the young people in my age usualy don't visit pages like this, unfortunately... OK I think I understand it now... I made the error and interpreted "was closed" as "has been closed" which could last to this day, but so it seems to be only for the era of UN sanctions under Saddam. Kilon22 (talk) 13:21, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

History edit

I know that the Soviet oil industry worked in this region since the end of the 1960th. Russian geologists have discovered this oil field in 1973. Does anyone have any detailed information on the history of the field? --= APh =-- (talk) 19:36, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

The next chapter in history is written as we speak because the contract with Exxon Mobil was not renewed. A Chinese compay got the gig. 2001:8003:A070:7F00:7C99:B953:E878:3FB8 (talk) 02:36, 5 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
