Until just now, this page listed the Conservative candidate in the 1935 and 1940 elections as Hugh Guthrie, the MP who represented the riding 1900 to 1935. That seemed suspect to me, because not only does Guthrie's page list him as retiring in '35, but he also died in 1939… which, obviously, renders him unable to stand as a candidate a year later. So I checked the Parliament of Canada's website to clear this up. First, Guthrie's PARLINFO page does not list him as a candidate in '35 (let alone '40). Second, a history of the Wellington South riding shows several differences between the 1900-35 candidate vs the 35-40 candidate: the '35 candidate has a middle name (Comyn), no honorific, and a different profession. All this suggests that the candidate in 1935 and 1940 was, in fact, a different man named Hugh Guthrie.
