WBS Classic vs. WBS

WBS, the WebChat Broadcasting System, was a virtual community and company that was eventually sold to and absorbed by the Go Network/ABC, and no longer exists. WBS Classic, while more or less successful at recreating the look and feel of WBS, is not WBS. I think it is relevant to include a link to WBS Classic in the article, as there are links to other sites where members of the WBS community attempted to recreate their community. The problem is that there seems to be at least one editor trying to push the notion that WBS Classic is WBS. Wikipedia is not for advertising or trying to push that one recreated site is better or more legitimate than the others.Narthring (talk • contribs) 05:14, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

That may be, and that's great. I personally like WBS Classic and what the creators have done with the site. I believe that other sites haven't tried to faithfully recreate the look and feel of the original WBS, to their detriment. That being said, however, WBS Classic is still not WBS. It may be that one day WBS Classic becomes notable in itself and may deserve special mention in the WBS article. As it stand today, though, I believe WBS Classic is simply another site created by a different company trying to emulate WBS. I would suggest using reliable sources (perhaps press releases or news articles?) to establish that WBS Classic is perhaps a more faithful recreation of the original WBS, documenting the hand the original WBS creators played in WBS Classic, etc. Narthring (talk • contribs) 05:44, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

This article was far more encyclopedic in tone until a revival and tribute site to the original WebChat Broadcasting System was launched in July 2009 and a mostly one-sided feud was started by the owner/creator of a "rival" chat site. I personally contributed much to the original article, but much of it was removed (or "vandalized" as the "rival" sites creator described it). His main complaints are that the new WBS site is somehow attempting to "fool" chatters into thinking that the revived WBS site was constructed by the original owners/creators of the original defunct WBS. The article plainly stated who the creator of the revival site is. Since this new site is nearly identical in name, appearance and functionality to the original WBS site, its mention and linking to the site in the original article is entirely relevant and appropriate. The dissenter has raised other issues that are not relevant to the article. Issues concerning "ownership" of a few chat rooms that appear on the "rival" site, the request for donations to help maintain and expand the site and some questions of copyright. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.115.17.24 (talk) 03:33, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

I kind of take issue with that but I'm just going to Add simply Narthring's first -unedited- stuff was just fine. It also seems just a fine now if not even better. Recreation of speedy deleted article

The original article was deleted as a copyvio but the document in question is a mirror of the article, not the other way around. The article has been around for several years and the document was created on January 8, 2009. Comparing the information in the document with the Wikipedia article at or before January 2009 shows that the document was clearly created from the Wikipedia article; the document even has the '[citation needed]' tag from the article. The admin that deleted the original article suggested that I recreate the article to correct the error and I have done that. Narthring (talk • contribs) 02:47, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Narthring, thanks for taking the time to properly investigate the issue and restore the article. I wish I'd been keeping a closer eye on it at the time. I've made mostly very minor contributions to Wikipedia, but this is the only article to date that I actually started because I went looking for it one day and was flabbergasted to find that it didn't exist. I put in a number of hours to chase down old information including its history and logos. While I'm a bit disappointed that proof of my only real claim to fame on Wikipedia is gone, that I originated this article, I'm glad that it still lives and continues to give past patrons of WBS a way to reconnect with old friends from its heyday.--Tobias382 (talk) 21:32, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Added textbox and logo

This is what it looked like before I arrived. Srsly? No infobox, and those two logos just slammed at the top? WBS was a pioneering social media site in the 1990s. It was even 'revived' in 2009. Strange that so few people care about its Wikipedia article, and that no one thought of fixing something so in plain sight.

I've also replaced one of the logo's, File:Wbs2.jpg, with a new file, File:WBS logo.gif. I have no idea where Wbs2.jpg originally came from. I don't think it should be here, so I've nominated it for deletion.
