- Watterson Towers is one of the world's tallest residence halls.
- Watterson Towers is the highest point between St. Louis Missouri and Chicago, Illinois.
- The creators of the building was Fridstein and Fitch Architects, Planners, Engineers of Chicago.
- The first two floors (lobby areas) and the top floor (the observation floor which overlooks all of campus) are actually taller than the rest of the floors (all floors with residential rooms.
- Watterson Towers has a resident Eagle at the top of the tower that rarely comes down.[1]
- Watterson was the tallest dormitory until China recently constructed a larger tower there is also a dormitory in lower Manhatten that is taller and holds more students( I believe that it is taller than Watterson).
Rumors from campus about Watterson that are not true: edit
- School legend is that it was created by the man who created the game "Dungeons and Dragons", and that he jumped off the roof upon the building being completed. This is false.
- Watterson Towers is sinking an inch every year because of the weight of the building. This is false.
- Students were allowed on the roof to smoke in the 70's. This is false.
Changes to Watterson? edit
I lived in Watterson back in the early 1980s. I thought that there were only four elevators back then, but I'm reading now that there are eight. Is my memory incorrect, or has this changed?
More of interest to me is this, however: In all the pictures I see of the Towers, between the elevator shafts and the towers themselves, there appears to be either glass panels or perhaps some type of cables forming a grid pattern. Now I know that this was NOT there back in my day (and I really, really know, because I lived in a "bowling alley"), so just what is it I'm seeing? 98.82.84.218 (talk) 16:05, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
