Question edit

Hi, I have a serious question about the assertion in this article that "True opossums are unique to North America alone." This seems way off, since, even if you are only considering members of the genus Didelphis (The genus of Virginia Opossum and 5 other species) to be "true opossums" they do occur in South America, as well. Should I revise this myself? Gloriapike (talk) 13:17, 30 June 2011 (UTC)gloriapikeReply

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thylacine The Thylacine was one of only two marsupials to have a pouch in both sexes (the other is the Water Opossum). ... information also repeated by lecturer at uni. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ufoolme (talkcontribs) 03:03, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Note the thylacine is extinct. Hence this article is correct to describe the water opposum as the only living marsupial in which the male has a pouch. Crust (talk) 14:23, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Move discussion in progress edit

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Virginia Opossum which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RM bot 01:45, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wrong content in Name section edit

Does anyone want to address the issue of the section titled Origin of the name containing a paragraph not related to the name at all?

That paragraph was added 14:35, 2010 February 9‎ by 99.152.41.66 and never questioned. The user apparently spent the entire afternoon editing opossum articles, so if anyone wants to research his other edits, have at it.

Just curious, WesT (talk) 18:17, 14 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Platypus is not a marsupial edit

I believe this is incorrect: "and is the most aquatic living marsupial after the platypus (the lutrine opossum also has aquatic habits). It is also the only living marsupial in which both sexes have a pouch."

The platypus is a monotreme, a different order of mammals all together. 2601:5C1:100:28BD:896E:FAA7:AB74:D5E6 (talk) 20:41, 11 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
