Performance data for Wartburg353W is greatly exaggerated. I know people who owned these, my family had one, and nobody would reach more than 130 km/h in a factory-spec Wartburg. Acceleration time 0-80 was listed in owners manual as 14sec, 0-100 would be over 20sec. The 0-80 time is often quoted as 0-100 time which is probably why some think of Wartburg as a quicker car than e.g. Lada or Skoda of the 70's- I dont know how to edit this into main text, just hoping somebody would take note and help with correcting — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.223.48.193 (talk) 06:18, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- I know from personal experience that a heavily loaded (5 persons + full trunk) 20 years old plain Wartburg 353 could reach at least 135 km/h on the shaky East German autobahn (Rennstrecke Dessau, A9) without problems. True. There's a whole society around 353-s in every Eastern country. My dear friend 80.223.48.193, from standstill such as traffic light, or on a highway - be as it might - Skoda or Lada of that age does NOT stand a chance against a 353. Volkspolizei Wartburg edit
The picture of the "Volkspolizei Wartburg" is not a 353, this is a Wartburg 1.3 with a 4-stroke engine. You can see the plastic bumper and the blinker lights next to the headlights, which were introduced with the 1.3 model in 1988.
