Protection

The protection is no doubt in place due to Google increasing traffic (and vandalism) to this page today for Walter's 125th birthday. He got a really good Google doodle. Wikipedia would look worse if half the people coming in to learn about Gropius saw blatant vandalism. Mr. Welsh (talk) 15:51, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

German or American?

I see the link to German architects as category, But since he was also a US citizen he was an American architect. Technically he was a German-born architect who emigrated to England, then moved to the United States and became a citizen, continuing to work as an architect. Whether he considered himself German or American is not a simple question, as with many of his fellow emigrants. --Fixifex 17:41, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Herbert Bayer

I'm new to this, but I noticed a typo in the article.

Typo: Herbert Bayer's name is misspelled in the article as Herbet Bayer. See below.

Walter Gropius - Mistake?

Hey, I was looking at this page since I'm doing a report on Walter Gropius, and I found something odd about it. It says that Walter Gropius was born in 1883, but then he married Alma Mahler at 1879? Removal and Prevention of MILHIST Tag

The MILHIST tag has been removed because Walter Gropius doesn't meet the Notability guideline listed here. Although a notable person in real life the notability doesn't reflect in any action he took in his short military career. Bauhaus Period (1919-1932)

Early career (1908–14) Reads weird

It's achronological, and kind of repeats itself. Like its some kind of blockbuster biographical movie that starts in medias res where the action is. Maybe this should be fixed? Just a humble art student's suggestion. 101.181.223.34 (talk) 18:15, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

I wanted to have a go at it, but apparently the two bits about military service (at the beginning and at the end of the section) were added by different editors, at different times and - most importantly - from different sources. So I gave up on combining and compressing for fear of unwarranted SYNTH. It'd take a more careful and time-consuming effort than I can spare now to properly do this (read both sources and write a streamlined narrative using both). Telegram to the Grand Duke of Saxony. A myth??

According to the recent semi-fictional German TV mini series, Bauhaus Die Neue Zeit, Walter Gropius, while in the trenches of WW1, ordered that a telegram be sent to the Grand Duke of Saxony saying that he wanted to become the director of an art school. I can't find anything on the Internet to back this up. However, I am getting a strange deja vu that I learned something very similar to this two or three decades ago from reading something somewhere but I can't remember the source.
