Description of the Mercury flight

Schirra's Sigma 7 flight is summarized here in one single sentence, the choice of which I find curious:

Because of complaints from previous astronauts about the capsule's life-support systems, Schirra ran numerous checks on them during his flight.

That surely is not the most notable thing about his flight; note it isn't cited, and in fact, Mercury-Atlas 8 doesn't even mention it. Indeed, the flight is probably "a victim of its own success"; I've heard the mission described as "textbook"; nothing "exciting" happened like Grissom's capsule sinking, Glenn's "loose heat shield" scare, or Carpenter's splashdown target miss. But we have to improve on this and come up with a better summary of this flight, if we want to improve this page beyond C class.

The thing that sticks out to me is how Schirra deliberately blew his own capsule's hatch after safe recovery, to prove that Grissom didn't blow his own hatch. JustinTime55 (talk) 18:28, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

Apologies on the short description, I was interrupted the other day while editing. I have since expanded the mission description, and was basing the original mission overview on Schirra's account in Schirra's Space. Since digging into the mission overview from NASA, I have included the bolts firing and notable fuel efficiency. Any feedback is appreciated; it was difficult to give an overview to a relatively mundane (for space travel) mission. Balon Greyjoy (talk) 05:35, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
