Reggae Flavor
editThe singer of Smash Mouth uses a slurry voice as he sings the song, and it reminds me a lot of the way reggae is sung. I do believe this detail should be added when the page is expanded in future edits.
Only Swan's Splashdown?
editIs there really only a Swan's Splashdown influence to be heard in this song? I think it sounds uncannily like Mama Told Me Not to Come in the version by Three Dog Night, maybe with a little hint of Hello, I Love You by The Doors. --87.154.17.37 (talk) 21:25, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
IMHO, this is less influence and more plagiarism, but the main riff is lifted almost note-for-note from The Zombies' "She's Not There" ' —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.165.242.144 (talk) 05:49, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
I think it sounds a lot like Space Cowboy. AmericanLeMans (talk) 22:46, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Music video
editCould be something about the music video (beach party, then street racing, "crash", etc.)... AnonMoos (talk) 02:01, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
Space Cowboy
editThe song reminds me of Space Cowboy. AmericanLeMans (talk) 21:34, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
Zadeck
editThis article seems to be incorrect about the origin of the song. It was recorded 30 years earlier by the doors. [1] Zadeck (talk) 18:27, 23 September 2021 (UTC)zadeck

Coke song ripoff
editThe opening line “i’d like yo buy the world a toke” was originally a coke and also to “teach the world to sing in perfect harmony”. Can’t believe it hasn’t been mentioned 8.47.99.129 (talk) 03:37, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
