Move edit

I have moved this article from WPLG-TV to WPLG. Consensus on both WP:NC#Broadcasting and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television_Stations#Article_names is that the article name should reflect the actual call letters of the TV station. As can be seen here: [1] the call letters for this station are in fact WPLG. Any concerns regarding this topic would be best addressed here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television_Stations. —A 23:00, 19 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Channel 17 reference edit

This article makes reference to ABC being on Channel 17 prior to WPLG signing on in 1957. But in the market the Wikipedia says Channel 17 was WLRN-TV since 1955. Which one is correct? -- (Edited by azumanga 05:37, 5 August 2007 (UTC))Reply

ABC was carried by WITV, Channel 17, (licensed to Hollywood, FL) for the 1 to 2 years of WITV's existence. WITV was noted for two things: Featuring popular singer Elaine Gay, and bikini-clad weather girl Maxine Barrat. When WPST came on the air, WITV lost the few viewers that it had, so it went off the air. Radio-TV Broadcasting in September 1958 lists WITV as having "suspended operations". The FCC Annual Report of 1995 lists WITV as having forfeited its license in 1961. With regard to WLRN, it came on the air in 1962 on Channel 17, owned by the Dade County School System. The School Board shared time on Channel 2 with the independent NET station, WTHS. WTHS would broadcast educational programming during the school day, and NET would take over in the evening. The Dade County School Board moved exclusively to channel 17 in 1978, turned over the license for Channel 2, and changed the calls for 17 to WLRN. User:biggoodie

WPLG "founded" in 1970 edit

Recently, someone here mentioned that WLBW lost its license in October 1969, and did not return to the air until March 1970, when Post Newsweek acquired the station and reflagged it as WPLG. Is this true? If so, what's the source. I reverted this person's changes, as no source was given, and I always knew that P-N's acquisition was seamless. -- azumanga 02:48, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

WLBW's sale to Post-Newsweek and change from WLBW to WPLG was indeed seamless. It's when WPST's license was in jeopardy of being revoked (in 1961) by the FCC over the Richard A. Mack affair from National Airlines that the station went off of the air for a week, replaced by WLBW. User:biggoodie

Well, to me WPLG will always have been founded in 1970.198.236.192.210 (talk) 00:15, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually WLBW replaced WPST within mere hours on 20 November 1961, according to the Miami News for that day (courtesy Google News Archive). But I suppose that, had WLBW been as mixed up in the Richard Mack affair as WPST had been, there probably would been a two-week break (at least) between the demise of WLBW and the opening of WPLG. 149.175.45.30 (talk) 21:09, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:New local 10 logo.png edit

Image:New local 10 logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material edit

Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to the list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

  1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
  3. WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
  4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 02:11, 9 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Digital Signal edit

I do not use cable TV. Using an Antenna, my digital TV receiver scans every channel except WPLG. My receiver cannot find WPLG, but it finds every other local channel. Maybe this issue can be added to the article. Marc S. 206.192.35.125 (talk) 13:24, 23 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Introduction too big edit

The second paragraph of the lead section is too big and too detailed for occasional readers to understand. It should either be skinny-summarized or outright moved to the History section. 181.65.56.226 (talk) 16:01, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
