Barnaby, Woodrow, etc

edit

I grew up in Cleveland in the 60's and 70's. My vague recollection is that Barnaby and Woodrow the Woodsman were on Channel 3. I would think that somehow, someway that would merit a mention -- Mycroft.Holmes 02:28, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Triple Doppler 3 and Triple Doppler Tower

edit

Would like to see a section dealing with WKYCs Triple Doppler radar, and maybe a pic? Also, what is the Triple Doppler Tower all about? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.13.37.225 (talk) 19:51, 23 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material

edit

Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to the list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

  1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
  3. WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
  4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 21:53, 11 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

WEWS-TV relevant discussion

edit

Please see Talk:WEWS-TV#Staff for relevant discussion on how to handle information on past and present station personalities.  Levdr1lp  (talk) 22:06, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Actually, an even more helpful link is Talk:WGN-TV#News team, which shows the full discussion that lead to that consensus there. Of course, people can re-argue the point here.... Qwyrxian (talk) 00:48, 8 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Mike Douglas pic

edit

I think the Mike Douglas pic works under WP:IRELEV.

It's from the time frame, and Douglas' show has a direct connection to the station as it began as a local show in 1961, and channel 3 served as its home base following being nationally syndicated in 1963 until 1965, when the show moved to Philly in the wake of the NBC/Westinghouse station swap fiasco.

I'll concede on the fact that the Roker pic really didn't fit the bill, as in all actuality he simply passed through WKYC on his way to bigger and better things.

Douglas though has more historical significance as he used WKYC as a home base for his national show.

The photo does not depict Douglas in his role at the station or even during his years at the station, and it's already used (and more appropriately so) in the the Mike Douglas article. The subject of this article is WKYC, not Mike Douglas, so a random photo of Douglas w/o any connection to the station itself (taken in 1966 a year after his show moved to Philadelphia) is inappropriate. Similarly, I would not support including a random photo of the Cleveland skyline or the NBC network logo. Given Douglas' relative fame, adding this photo also feels WP:PROMO. Alumni

edit

Just so there's no issues with the use of the word "alumni" -

1. Here's the official definition from Dictionary.com

2. Here's the alumni page from WWE.com, where they clearly label their past wrestlers as "alumni"

So the word doesn't strictly have to pertain to a school or college.

No longer airing Guardians games

edit

I just wanted to inform you that WKYC is no longer airing Cleveland Guardians games, as they are now exclusive to Bally Sports Great Lakes. I therefore request the page be updated to reflect this change. I would normally do it myself, but I have no idea when the station stopped airing Guardians games. 100.7.36.213 (talk) 02:05, 9 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
