W Jesus Be Kind

Are we sure this is the call letter meaning of this station? Seems that WJBK therefore would have been a religious station, but no mention of this is made in the article. SwissCelt 18:59, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It is indeed correct. However, the station histories that I have seen so far have not mentioned that the station was religious in origin (owner or programming). If you do find something that mentions this, please add it to the article but also list the source under the "References" section. Pentawing 04:04, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
It may have originated on one of the radio stations... Morgan Wick 04:53, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

I've added a fact tag to that statement. It needs to be verified, by a reliable source, or removed. - Rjd0060 17:41, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Reaching London

The WJBK signal is certainly not strong enough to reach London for ordinary TV antennae, but outdoor tall antennae could probably pick up some signal. London is much closer to Erie and even Cleveland. The WJBK signal was routinely plagued with interference even on the London system of Rogers Cable, and it seemed to happen in cycles. An interference "whine" would steadily increase over a period of 2 to 5 minutes, overpower the signal and render it unreadable, persist for a few minutes, then ease off to a reasonably clear signal. I would only watch the station for locally-aired programs such as My Favorite Martian or the movie show hosted by Sir Graves Ghastly. The station was one of the worst two signals on the cable dial, with WJW-TV Ch 8 Cleveland being even worse (with interference from CKNX-TV Ch 8 Wingham). On the other hand, WXYZ-TV Ch 7 Detroit rarely had interference. WJW was removed from the dial in December 1970 by both London cable companies, replaced with WQLN-TV Ch 54 (PBS) Erie; WJBK was removed to the mid-band in spring 1976 and replaced with TVOntario Ch 18; WXYZ was removed to the mid-band on July 17, 1976, replaced with CBLFT-9 Ch 40 London (the latter causing a flood of complaints).

Channel 2 was also used at Wiarton, Ontario since 1970, and in Buffalo, New York, since the 1950s. I believe Wiarton is sufficiently far away, while Buffalo is blocked by height of land. Toledo stations have never been a problem in London - they're too far away (with 11 reused in Hamilton, 13 even closer in Kitchener, and 24 in Erie). GBC 16:29, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Former On-Air Staff

News

Channel 2's been doing a *lot* of news on Windsor in recent weeks, as well as weather for Windsor and Chatham. Either we've become very important, a great deal of news is suddenly happening here, or they've decided to pay more attention to the Canadian viewers across the water... perhaps that should be mentioned? Why was real channel 7 chosen for WJBK digital transmission?

Why did they choose to transmit WJBK-DT on a VHF frequency (channel 7) - instead of UHF?

I think this makes WJBK the only DT broadcaster in Detroit to use a VHF channel, which is a bone-head move given that most people would rather have a single antenna (UHF) to cover all channels. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.212.80 (talk) 17:15, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

They wanted the lowest available channel so people that watched analog 2 through antenna would still be able to pick it up with the same VHF antenna. I wish they would have chosen a UHF channel too, its hard to pick up on my UHF antenna. TomCat4680 (talk) 17:43, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Major Editing Overhaul

This article needed a major edit and addtional information. Very shortly a number of footnote refrences for the new information will be added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.75.40.116 (talk) 23:02, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Tags

When using the needed tags please help by suggesting in this talk section what the exact problem is as is the case with the disambig tags used after the channels. Otherwise its the same as a red check mark and its hard to know what the correct solution would be.

Also this article has no more major issues, its well cited over 50 times, there has been no disscussion since the tags were posted so they're coming down. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.27.0.220 (talk) 15:50, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

A user readded the ref-improve tag without explination. If specific examples of where Wiki guidelines have not been met in the article can be cited here then they can be fixed or discussed here.107.47.135.119 (talk) 14:34, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

The Refimprove tag has been reinstated due to the following unreferenced paragraphs: Lorimar-Telepictures, With This Ring, and News operation. If you have any questions, please contact me. Fairly OddParents Freak (Fairlyoddparents1234)   C 19:44, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
