Assessment

This is a good start, but it's all listified, and written from an in-universe perspective. There's also not enough detail on any aspects of the publication and creation. The creative and translating roles need to be expanded and examined to get it up to a b-class. Rated it as low importance, but if it is as popular as is suggested, I can see movement to mid. Okey, so I first saw some weird things on Cornelia Hale's page though I think they have been edited now. Quoting from this article:

Story Arc alignment in graphic novels/chapter books

Could someone make a page showing just how the different story arcs align with the issues/volumes of the different mediums? The article already shows which issues of the comic correspond to the different arcs (e.g. 1-12 = fight for meridian), but which chapter books cover each of the arcs, and what do the new graphic novels cover? I read the first chapter book, then stopped for over a year, and picked up with the cartoon. Now that I'm through season 2 with no guarantee of a season 3, I want to pick up the books again. But if I choose the graphic novels or the chapter books, I don't know where to start...which is why I think this article would be helpful. I can't do it myself because I don't know! Thanks... Article too long

Poor wording

From the article:

Japan decided to break this mold and create an authentic manga based on the comic, which was canceled after only two volumes.

A country decided it? It should be something like: "Japanese publisher [name here] decided...", or "Japanese manga artist [name here] decided..." Stormwatch 02:41, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Since no information on the publisher or author are given, I decided to simply point out that the comic wasn't published in Japan and that a manga was created. I also removed the original speculation for why it was cancelled as it was purely POV.--Tenka Muteki 04:36, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

The Japanese paperback issues clearly state that they are published by Kadokawa Shoten, made by Iida Haruko, covers by Daisuke Ehara and originally published in Gekkan Asuka from the same publisher. (218.228.195.44 06:24, 30 September 2006 (UTC))

The big picture on the Witch comic page doesn't belong there. Its place is on the TV show page. The best picture is a cover of one of the comics. And by the way, there are better pictures than the proposed ones.

Most Popular?

Does anyone have a link to verify this article's claim that this comic is "the most purchased in the world"? It mentions Brand Republic, but gives no link to the page backing up this claim. It is the most bought comic in the world, though. According to the publisher: http://www.summitmedia.com.ph/magazines/witch.php it states it's the fourth best selling magazine. And magazines sell millions more copies than comic books per issue, especially the top magazines which can sell over 30 million issues per month, or so. Amibite 9/24/06

I don't think he appears/exists anywhere. I looked W.I.T.C.H. up on the I.N.D.U.C.K.S. database, and Brendan doesn't appear in the list of characters. That's why I removed him from the list; correct me if he does. Oreos 16:21, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Anime style?

The Animated Series page says the comic is anime-influenced, but this page says the animated series is anime-style, I personally think that the animated series is more in Western style, except for the transformation scenes, but I'd rather have an expert who knows exactly what defines anime and western style drawing. Also I've never read the comics so I don't know if the animated series is more anime-influenced or less. So could someone clear up that point? Jztinfinity 17:19, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

--- The comic is done in traditional Disney style (which anime was influenced by, such as the famous Osamu Tezuka who is hailed as the Grandfather of manga) so that may be why people mistake the comic for it. The animated series, though, is animated in France and has a slight manga-ish look to it, although it's not too noticable. So in this case this page would be correct. Amibite 1:38 9 April]]

Correction: Tezuka was influenced by the style of Disney's original shorts and early films. "Traditional Disney style" pretty much changed each decade, to the point where none of their 1990's or 2000 films look each use drastically different styles. If anything, the W.I.T.C.H. comic looks closer to a Western take on Japanese style, in the way that The Big O looks like a "Japanese take on Western style". To clarify. Everythign has gone round in a circle. The modern style of Anime (big heads and doe eyes and super deformed chibis) is largely due to the influence of early Disney (etc) cartoons that came into Japan after WWII. This then developed into the more distinctive form that everybody thinks of as Anime and Manga style today which, in turn, has recently been imported back into the US and modified slightly again.

As for "Anime style" whatever you want to call it, this franchise is very heavily influenced by Anime/Manga. It's not just the transformation sequences. The use of long panning shots, the fighting style of the characters (especially elemental mysticism behind their powers), and the heavy emphasis on the interpersonal relations between the characters and their existence outside of WITCH is all extremely Asian.

Characters and Iusses

Please do not move the Guardian biographies onto this page, as well as the special issue summaries. It is getting too cluttered and we have to start cleaning it up and make new articles.

Approval for addition of 'Italian comics' category

If I'm not mistaken, the W.I.T.C.H. comic book has been created in Italy. Am I right?

If so, please confirm to this message so to approve the inclusion of the Italian comics category into the W.I.T.C.H. category listing at the bottom of the page.

Endarno's identity

"When Endarno assumes the position as Oracle in the fourth arc, the imprisoned Cedric believes he has met a kindred spirit, since the new Oracle displays manners similar to those of Phobos."

The summary of Cedric's history stretches until after this, so I don't think there's a reason (i.e. spoiler-related reason) for not writing the whole story here: that Endarno *is* Phobos - or rather, that Phobos has taken over Endarno's body. As far as I can tell, Cedric was aware of this the entire time. I'm new to Wikipedia, so I hope someone else can edit this. :) 84.49.105.254 19:26, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Note 6

"Note 6: On the W.I.T.C.H. TV series, Anna is Irma's birth mother, not her stepmother, as she remembers when Irma was a baby."

Does this also mean that her surname in the TV series isn't Bannister, but Lair? In the comic story "L'isola dei ricordi" (part 57), there are several illusions, one of them resembling Irma's mother (according to Irma herself). And this illusion looks just like Anna Bannister. This might need to be mentioned. (Stefan2 10:40, 5 October 2006 (UTC))

The woman in issue 57 is the illusive projection of Irma's birth mother, who Irma only knew in the first years of her life. The fact that Irma's birth mother and Anna Bannister look like each other is pure coincidence.

In the information box in the upper-right corner, there's a picture of an English-language issue, but the text associated with that image talks about the Italian W.i.t.c.h. magazine. I'm doing some cleanup today

I will do some cleanup of the articles related to W.i.t.c.h. today. I will start by collecting them all in a new Category:W.I.T.C.H.. I'm sorry for any temporary mess that will occur. Spelling of Kandracar?

there seam to be several differing spelling of Kandracar. should we use Kandracar spelt with a 'K' or Candracar spelt with a 'C'? depends on which region your in i suppose. Is there a standard? I think that the C spelling only applies to the US. Since this is a European comic/series and the number of countire that use K outnumbers the number of countries that use C, I advice that we stick with the K spelling. perfectblue 11:37, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm a fan children's entertainment that steps away from the sanitized, dumbed down, non continuous down, "Dexters Lab" format promoted by the networks, which I blame for making our kids dumb couch potatoes with no attention span, and parents freaky about "Sex and violence" on children's TV.

Are you absolutely certain? Will's father didn't remarry in the Cartoon. He was planning on marry a woman named Sarina Sanchez late in season 2, but I don't recall her having any children, and if they ever actually married it wasn't mentioned prior to season 2 finishing.

Veil

When was the veil raised in the comic?

In the animation it was raised within human memory, but I've heard that it was raised much earlier in the comic.

In Italy it is named "muraglia", which means "wall". As an answer to your question: the wall is raised tens of thousands years ago, at least. So it has to exist before Phobos took control.

Guardians of the Veil vs. Guardians of Candracar

In the animation, they are the Guardians of the veil for the first season, but after that they are usually just referred to as being the Guardians. It might not be strictly correct, but I think that Guardians of the Veil is the best known.

In the first Saga (and season) the Guardians were both the Guardians of Kandrakar and the wall. After the Oracle removed the wall the Guardians became just the Guardians of Kandrakar.

Phobos and Elyon

I have a few questions regarding these two characters. First of all, did Phobos actually murder his parents to gain the title as ruler of Meridian? I have tried to gather as much info about this as I can, but the comic books only say that his parents disappeared under mysterious circumstances, and after Phobos ursurped the throne, it is shown that his mother, at least, is dead as she is shown in spirit form when she converses with Elyon. Also, I believe Elyon was involved in the Season 4 saga of the comic book, when Endarno became the new Oracle. The info I have about this is that Endarno demanded that Elyon hand over the Crown of Light and give up her title as Queen of meridian, but I would like to have some more info. Thanks! During his imprisonement in the Tower of Mists Phobos managed to grow his last remaining bit of power by hatred. After that he used the power to seize the body of Endarno, the guard of the Tower, while Endarno's spirit moved into Phobos' body. No one noticed the change. Phobos only shared this knowledge with Cedric, who got the task to get the Heart of Kandrakar from Will. When Elyon finally complied to appear before him in Kandrakar she recognized him as her brother. Because she refused to obey his demands she got imprisoned. May 2007 Discussion regarding article length

At 56Kb, this article is almost twice over the limit of the 32Kb recommended by wikipedia, but perhaps relevent to the editors of this article that I believe that article has become iincreasingly difficult to edit by being bogged down with seemingly cramped walls of text. With this is in mind, I would like to start a discussion to best deal with this problem.

Off the top of my head, I will suggest the following and request feedback from editors that would like to help.

• The descriptions of the W.I.T.C.H. protagonist should be edited, condensed and perhaps merged with respective biographical articles from the respective articles from the W.I.T.C.H. (TV series)

• The "parts" section describing the numerous storylines should have their own articles

• The "villains" sections should be merged with the respective storyline article, unless they have made numerous appearances through out storylines.

These three are the most pressing at the moment, and I am sure that there are still smaller details that will be dealt with eventually. Suggestions, comments? I would like to have them on this talkpage.--Kevin586 04:56, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Guardians paragraph

The first paragraph is entirely based on the tv series while this is the comic page. In the comics it wasn't Yan Lin who stated the Guardians could teletransport. At first she's dead, at second she never teletransported by herself. Will learned it from Caleb, later the rest of the girls learned it from Will. There's also a limit to immortality. The Guardians do die in their human form. They can stay in Kandrakar forever, but they have the choice to end up into oblivion. Irmalover (talk) 11:03, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Comic/Cartoon mixup

It sometimes happens that cartoon elements are being put in the comic page of W.I.T.C.H., which can't be allowed. The most recent case was the description of Nerissa, in "which Quintessence" was mentioned. This belongs to the cartoon page. Therefore I had to delete an entire paragraph. Split most characters into a list of characters?

The page is, honestly, huge and takes forever to read or scroll through. Should the villains and some of the other characters and locations be moved to a list with more information and locations, instead of taking up space on the main article? • My first recommendation would be to look at an article like Superman or Batman and use it as a model. Try to build your article in a similar fashion.
• Most of the article is lists of comic issues and books. But the article is not fundamentally a list article. I would say that, if the lists are considered notable for some reason, they should be moved to their own articles and removed from this one. It would be better for the article to discuss the series as a whole. To the extent that individual issues or books are mentioned, in general they should either be discussed (i.e. say something about the issue), or else not mentioned.
• Aside from the lists of issues and books, the article largely focuses on the storylines. There is some discussion of how the series was created and such but ideally there should be more discussion about this, the popularity of the series, reception from critics if applicable, etc. Look at the Superman article as an example.
• There are almost no citations/references. Each paragraph or item should have at least one inline citation (<ref>).
• The one reference that is provided (http://www.kaaberboel.dk/uk-the-witch-series.htm) is a dead link. Even at that the site itself looks like a self-published site. Ideally the article should use authoritative sources like books, newspapers or news sites, etc. (and preferably secondary sources).
  • Also, when referencing foreign-language sites it is often a good idea to insert a quote from the site translated into English. That makes gives reviewers that don't speak the language a little more confidence that your references are legit.
• Book names should be in italics.
• <ref> tags should generally go at the end of sentences.
• Avoid abbreviating things; make statements plain. For example, "Lene Kaaberbøl has written nine books taking place in the W.I.T.C.H. universe, published 2002-2003" should be "Lene Kaaberbøl has written nine books taking place in the W.I.T.C.H. universe, which were published in 2002 and 2003" (or something similar).
• The Manga and Welcome sections are extremely short. Sections like this should either be expanded or merged into other sections.

P.S. A comment on the "plot holes" question: The first question, of course, is what is the basis for calling these "plot holes". If the basis for calling these plot holes is that some editor noticed an inconsistency then that is original research (i.e. it doesn't matter if these really are plot holes; the labeling of them as such must be based on the observations of an authoritative source). In general I would tend to argue that such a section is inappropriate anyway. If some recognized critics have argued that there are plot holes it is probably best to simply include these criticisms as part of a section discussing critical reception. --Mcorazao (talk) 20:06, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

All right, but, because W.I.T.C.H. is from Disney comics Italy, you must include Italian language titles, release date and ISBN.
