Requested move 12 August 2023 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Consensus that "vv ZOB" is the most appropriate formatting for the title; because of technical restrictions, that article title needs to be recorded as "Vv ZOB" in the software. Template:DISPLAYTITLE can be used to make the title display as desired on the article. (closed by non-admin page mover) ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 14:48, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Vv ZOBVV ZOB – Per Enwiki convention,[1] inconsistent uses by website brought forwards as the reason for the move (it uses: VV ZOB, v.v. ZOB, vv ZOB, i.e. almost anything but Vv Zob), [2] the regional press that covers VV ZOB,[3][4] standard at Hollandse Velden,[5] and previous debates.[6][7]. gidonb (talk) 02:00, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Comment Just to point on the techincal side that this article is under "vv ZOB" (with lowercase title). And to answer Gidonb's deleted ping of me, I just did the technical side of the request - I'm not familar with Netherlands naming convention. --SuperJew (talk) 22:28, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
SuperJew, the convention is explained above. People just start moving stuff around, don't check, don't submit RMs, it's really time consuming. And if you follow the conventions, you waste tons of time. Maybe an idea to not just provide technical help but also check what is going on? v.v. ZOB is EXTREMELY bad Dutch. Same as with XYZ'17. We correct these even when clubs use these consistently. Not the case here. Not because we engage in OR but because we stand firmly on the shoulders of the quality sources. gidonb (talk)
@Gidonb: I don't see any convention laid out in what you linked, just a category of club names. Also, I didn't move anything, just added {{lowercase title}} to the page. If the page is moved, give me a ping and I'll happily remove that long piece of code to have it with an uppercase title again. --SuperJew (talk) 22:45, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
SuperJew, as you will see in the category NOT one single club has Vv, vv, V.V., or v.v. as the title. It's also in the debates. I found some of these but there have been more, also with more participants. It's like a full time job with, unfortunately, not enough support where needed. gidonb (talk) 22:50, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Don't really care what's in the category, and I don't intend to go one by one over each page to check. Here are examples of actual conventions, and even that I don't feel obliged to check to do such a small techical move, so kindly stop trying to lay the burden on me and maybe ping the user who actually made the move and discuss it with them. --SuperJew (talk) 22:55, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
[no ping] That link is actually helpful! Thank you! Maybe we can also spell out this convention here, as it has been recognized time and again in the debates that you disregarded. Other stuff does not apply to conventions. gidonb (talk) 22:57, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose I made the request that SuperJew carried out. I did so because the club uses lowercase v's on it's own website, see bottom right [8], as well as throughout the website. I noticed a few VV ZOB's in places that get few viewers. I believe it's save to assume the club's webmaster was paying attention to other things there.
This requested move is misrepresented as "Vv ZOB to VV ZOB" but in truth it is "vv ZOB to VV ZOB".
v.v. ZOB or vv ZOB might be bad Dutch. But when it's a name WP shouldn't arbitrarily change that.
As for the argument that this is inconsistent. There is no consistency or convention in the naming of Dutch footballclubs. I don't think WP in these cases should enforce a convention that doesn't exist IRL.
Lastly; I stumbled across this debate by accident. I think I should have been informed. It feels a bit like an attempt to sneak it by me. SuperJew's deleted ping comment reinforces that feeling. Dutchy45 (talk) 07:57, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
They say 'Voetbalvereniging v.v. ZOB' which would actually would be V.v.v.v ZOB? There should be consistence amongst clubs though. GiantSnowman 18:14, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment the current article title 'is' vv ZOB. On English Wikipedia, vv ZOB and Vv ZOB are identical titles, and it is currently located at "vv ZOB" -- 67.70.25.80 (talk) 04:46, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Leaning oppose. I agree that the "correct" title is probably "vv ZOB", for which we have coding if it needs to display that way. BD2412 T 18:11, 20 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
