Not a Scouting organisation

Although the Voortrekkers could be called a 'Scout-like organisation', the Voortrekkers do not follow Baden-Powell, make no claim to be Scouts, and I doubt they would want to be referred to as non-aligned Scouts.

So far, most or all the contributors to this page have been Scouts, not Voortrekkers. Previously most of the text was based on comparing them to Scouts, but this doesn't seem a fair reflection on them as a separate organisation.

Based on this, I've removed the article from the Scouting categories and also removed some (but not all) of the Scout references in the article.

I'll leave it up to others to write a discussion of the Afrikaner nationalist political role played by the Voortrekkers. Their history is controversial, but since they are still in existence it's unfair to judge them entirely based on that.

Agree. Especially in light of the role played by Baden-Powell in the Second Anglo-Boer War, the Voortrekkers really don't consider themselves Scouts in any way, shape or form. I should know, as I actually used to be one (long, long ago). Elf-friend 14:47, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

The Voortrekkers has never been part of the Scouts, although the idea for the organisation originated because of them. The Voortrekkers is also a place where the Afrikaner youth of today can freely express their views and experience a wide variety of things. It is a place where you can feel safe. Name Die Voortrekkers

I don't know how this would fit in with Wikipedia rules, but the organization is called (and registered as) Die Voortrekkers. The definite article 'The' is part of the name of the organisation. Sadly, many people are uninformed about Die Voortrekkers, believing falsely it has something to do with politics. Die Voortrekkers is a modern Afrikaans and culture movement with POSITIVE CITIZENSHIP as one of its main values. It is also a concern to Die Voortrekkers about other politically orientated organisations with the name "Voortrekkers". It is misleading to the public and can cause severe misunderstandings. Pictures/visual content

How do you upload pictures on a page? And if anybody have relevant images, please upload them (such as old photo's with old uniforms, events in history where the Voortrekkers were involved. Information about uniforms can be found in this set of PDF files, all written in Afrikaans. I don't have time to extract images from that right now, but hopefully I will remember later. I will first put draft information here, and three months later (given the low traffic of the talk page) insert it. Oh, and permission will need to be sought to upload the pictures under an open license, since the images are owned by the organisation. --BurritoBazooka (talk) 18:04, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Incorrect Emblem/Logo

I have uploaded the correct emblem to this page. The incorrect version previously displayed caused mass confusion within the organisation as it was the first version Google returned. Update to current flag

The Voortrekkers youth organization have adopted the Flag of Natalia Republic, as mentioned in that article.

I'll update the article and link to the flag on the Flag of Natalia Republic as it is already uploaded. If anyone thinks I should reupload the image with an updated name, let me know and I'll do it.
