Presentation edit

Several more citations are needed in this section to support the information given; I have tagged a few places where this is the case. More information should be added to complete this section. In addition, the existing information could be better organized - the information on differential diagnosis, for example, could be moved to be under the diagnosis heading. GinnyMae (talk) 04:03, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

I agree that the information on differential diagnosis could be moved; I also believe that this information should be cited, without citation it is unclear where this information is coming from and whether it is reliable I.anastacia (talk) 15:13, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Was unable to verify that asthma co-occurs with VCD 40% of the time from the article cited. I.anastacia (talk) 15:13, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

The information would be easier to take in if more clearly divided. For instance, splitting up information under separate headings for symptoms and causes might make it more accessible and easier to pull out the relevant information. Chrissietheslp (talk) 00:38, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Causes edit

Add a section on causes - risk factors, triggers, etc. GinnyMae (talk) 20:49, 1 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Risk factors: Upper airway inflamation (allergic or nonallergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, recurrent upper respiratory infections), Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), severe emotional distress and female gender are all risk factors for VCD.[1] Other factors that put one at risk for VCD include participation in competitive athletics, playing a wind instrument, and experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event related to breathing (such as a near-drowning or life-threatening asthma attack, for example).[1] GinnyMae (talk) 21:16, 1 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Diagnosis edit

The information on how to diagnose VCD is incomplete and needs more information. More citations should be added to this section to support the information that is already there. Furthermore, it would be good to add some visuals here to illustrate what some of the diagnostic tests look like, and to help differentiate the equipment used for these different tests.Chrissietheslp (talk) 00:26, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Information about differential diagnosis should be added here as VCD is often misidentified. Kathytheslp (talk) 20:27, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Treatments edit

The information on treatments available for VCD is incomplete; this section should be expanded considerably. In addition, more citations should be added to this section to support the information that is already there. GinnyMae (talk) 04:04, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

The treatments section needs to include more citations to back up the information that is there. There are many treatments mentioned in passing that need to be elaborated on and described in more detail. Chrissietheslp (talk) 00:28, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Also, I am wondering if there is any information available on prognosis or possible outcomes. It would be interesting to add it here if there is information available. Chrissietheslp (talk) 00:40, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Treatment options to discuss include the following: Behavioral therapy to relax vocal folds, such as vocal exercises, relaxation techniques, breath support, and respiratory retraining therapy; Stress management, such as fostering awareness of triggers, relaxation techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy; Medication; Controlling asthma; and controlling nasal drip or GERD Chrissietheslp (talk) 00:55, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Another treatments I am aware of is intravenously administered magnesium sulfate for rescue and magnesium supplementation for prevention.Halconen (talk) 20:57, 15 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Prognosis edit

A section on prognosis should be included to highlight the course of the dysfunction after treatment and the likelihood of recovery or decrease in symptoms. I.anastacia (talk) 15:50, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Epidemiology edit

It would be good to add a section on epidemiology and provide information on the incidence and prevalence of VCD as well as who is more likely to have it. Chrissietheslp (talk) 00:32, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Looking at the Katial & Hoyte chapter in Encyclopedia of medical immunology: Volume 3, it seems a variety of different incidence rates have been reported in the literature for different age ranges etc, but that these are probably an underestimate of the true incidence rate. Brugman et al. reported three times as many females as males suffer from VCD, regardless of age bracket.[1] GinnyMae (talk) 20:45, 1 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Other Factors edit

Include a section on other factors or secondary symptoms that impact on quality of life and perception of well being. Chrissietheslp (talk) 15:28, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Signs and Symptoms edit

A "Signs and Symptoms" section should be created and this information should be separate from the general overview/presentation of the disorder.Kathytheslp (talk) 20:28, 2 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
